Hi, This is my situation: I bought a Stagg US60 for a friend 2 months ago. I played with it before I handed it over to make sure it kept it tune, etc. I loved it, so I went back this week to the same shop and purchased the same instrument. However, this instrument keeps the strings in tune CGEA, but each note there after is sharp, becoming less sharp as I go down the fret. So on the e string, F is almost half way to F#, G is a little less, etc. The sound sucks. I read that it might be the strings, so I am going to try that out. What would you do. There doesn't seem to be any obvious flaws, but maybe I am not looking in the right spot. Thanks, Ken

It's possible that if your action is really high, it could cause the notes to sharpen like this. But sadly this sounds more like the frets being positioned wrong in relation to the nut. That is, the first fret starts a few mil further down the fingerboard than it should - inexcusable really, even on cheap ukes. I've had this problem, and fixing it involves repositioning the nut by shaving a little off the end of the fingerboard - or better still, taking the instrument back and demanding another one that plays in tune!
