Is there a remedy to making a Fretboard look like new?

I have an old Uke (don't know the name) and the frets have been used so much that a lot of them you can see clearly where they have been played.

I was wondering therefore if you can re-stain it in some way to bring it up to scratch?

If so, is it an easy job, and what product would do it?

Thanks for any help.

Remove all of the strings.  Use a soft cloth (microfiber works great) and wipe away any loose dirt.  Then, apply some lemon oil to a clean, soft cloth, and wipe down the fretboard, especially where the fret wires meet the wood, to remove any remaining dirt and recondition the dried out wood.  Wipe away the excess oil, then re-install a set of new strings.

Go very easy on the oil. A little goes a long way, and make sure the fretboard is CLEAN before using. Tung oil is good, too.

I have not found this to be a necessary task on my instruments, but I do clean the fretboard, usually a good wipe down after I'm through playing is sufficient. Other times I use the guitar polish/cleaner when I'm giving it a once over.

Play with clean hands, you will play better anyway, but still need to wipe it down when you are through.
