I just came home from GC's 4th of July sale with a Cordoba 25CK: All solid koa, very nice tone, right-on intonation all the way up the fret board, pretty to look at, and a nice complement to my mahogany Bushman Jenny. Here are some generic pics:![]() ![]() Yea! Last edited on Sat Jul 5th, 2008 11:47 am by geelinus |

I've been thinking about these cordoba's for a few weeks now - can you post tracks with the Jenny for comparison?

I'd love to post a couple of sound clips, but a system meltdown has left us temporarily without a home computer. For now, I'll just offer my impressions: I 'm VERY happy with the Cordoba concert uke. It plays like a dream and was impeccably set-up - better than my Bushman - when it arrived. . My initial impression was that the Cordoba was also tonally superior to my Bushman - which was saying a lot. Now that the honeymoon period is over, I'm a bit more objective. If you like koa - the Cordoba won't disappoint you. I honestly can't detect any tonal difference between the Portuguese koa and any Hawaiian koa I've heard/played. The Cordoba has what I'd call a "crisp" tone - a bit understated although not necessarily quieter than my mahogany Bushman concert. The Cordoba rings clear and distinct and sounds darned good but - to my ears - the Bushman has a wee-bit more chimeyness -- Is that a word? By that, I mean it rings more. The mahogany Jenny also has more sustain. The Cordoba came with Hilos - which was a huge mistake. Aquilas really bring out the best in it. Last edited on Mon Aug 4th, 2008 02:37 pm by geelinus |

How long have you had the Jenny? The reason I ask is you might be comparing an instrument that has opened up (the Jenny) to one that won't open for a year or so (the Cordoba). Not that you can help yourself, it's a new instrument and you have to compare. I'd be interested to hear you review the two in a year. I'll bet the Cordoba will win. Don't get me wrong though, I love the Jenny. I've had mine since 05 and love it.

I plays a Cordoba concert this weekend - I agree on the fine tone, but the construction was horrible. The one I played had incredibly sharp frets that hung down beyond the edge of the neck - almost like it was unfinished (although they were beveled). The shop keepers comment was "wow, how did that leave the factory"... Needless to say, I put it back on the shelf (I wanted a tenor anyway). How's the over all construction of yours?

I've had the Jenny for about four months now; I'm not sure if it has totally "opened up" yet, but don't doubt that the Cordoba will continue "grow" on me tonally. Workmanship-wise, my Cordoba was as close to perfect as I could ask: No sharp edges or excess glue anywhere. The intonation was perfect as well. The only thing that left me less than totally satisfied was the inclusion of Hilo strings as standard equipment, which was easily remedied. My next uke will be a tenor - I'm undecided as whether it will be mahogany or koa though.
