I was wondering if anyone has tried the Roland Cube Street Amp with their uke with PU? I tried it with the electric guitar and it has really good output. The other nice feature is that it's battery operated for 15 hours. Very portable and simple to use. http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLAND-CUBE-STREET-GUITAR-COMBO-AMP-COSM-EFFECTS-BLACK_W0QQitemZ230241448343QQihZ013QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr21VoD8-4k Another portable amp is the Little Lanilei by Songworks. This is a tube amp the size of a lunch box. I understand it has a bigger sound that the Cube Street and even smaller. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llBN_dTPGlc&feature=related Anyone else have experience with these or other type of amps?

Hi Dino, Go for the Roland Cube Street. I use mine all the time for my uke, my lap steel and my archtop guitar. It's built like a tank, weighs only 11 lbs., sounds good by itself and can easily be mic'ed for playing with a full band. It fits inside my suitcase when I fly. The batteries last forever. Remember to turn it off when you aren't using it. The only time I've run down the batteries is when I've forgotten to shut it down and came back the next day to find them dead. I bought the carrying case and bitched about the price the whole time. But now I'm glad I did. On my last two road trips (The New York Ukulele Festival and The Dallas Steel Guitar Convention) the carrying case made hauling the amp around the cities much easier.

Thanks Gerald... I think for the price and portability it's worth it. Seems like the Cube Street has more volume than my acoustic Trace-Elliot. There's also a street musican I saw on YouTube who uses the Cube Street for his background music and he plays his electric guitar leads through the MicroCube attached to his belt. I think he calls himself Doctorfeelgood. Excellent guitar player from the UK.

I've got a Roland AC-60 and it's awesome. One 12" speaker does the job. Can't go wrong with Boss products. It's great for acoustic ukulele and small venues. Sounds great with the second input using a microphone. I have not connected another uke or instrument to the second jack. Has a case that can be carried via a shoulder strap. I take it to our jam sessions and it keeps up with the Fender Cybertwin amps. (2 x 12" speakers) It's loud and crisp. Has the option for Chorus and the anti-feedback is one of the best features. I run a G-string tenor with a fishman passive pickup and LR Baggs Paracoustic pre-amp. Also have the Roland portable cube - has a battery option. I would carry extra batteries. Seems to drain really fast. For a compact amp, it's a good buy and works well. But, I'm still biased toward the AC-60. Last edited on Tue Apr 15th, 2008 08:07 pm by honu |
