yo. If you're doing one on the first of April I'll be out of town, but it'd be fun to come another time.  Halifax is only an hour away, and I'll drive farther than that for a jam.

Had a fun session last Sunday with Ukulele Mike and some other people, one of whom I suspect is Mr. Gnome.  I was the last to leave, at 4:30 AM.

Hi Revhank...

Just a few questions.

Is there anything I should bring (aside from my uke) to the next HUG meeting?

Were there any particular pieces the group was working on last time that I could bring myself up to speed with?

Do most people use C or D tuning at this gathering?

John...

Yup, Gnome is me (Jonathan). I'm still reeling from the amazing uke jam experience. It was hard to leave that evening.

The next gathering of H.U.G. is Monday, April 7 at the Celtic Corner (Alderney Drive, right where the ferry lands...and there's plenty of parking ;-) in Dartmouth (7-9pm). This is a tonne o' fun, and open to all levels. The number of ukers is increasing each meeting.

Bring a tune or two for all to play if you can.

UkeOn!!!

To answer the gnome's question, D has pretty much become the agreed-upon tuning.

See you guys monday. I have a new uke coming, but it likely won't be here in time.

Hi folks... Just to keep everyone in the loop, a website for the Halifax Ukulele Gang has been set up.

http://halifaxukulelegang.wordpress.com/

I've started to post a few things to the site so far (mostly some of my discoveries on the web as a uke newbie - sources for music, tuning, etc...).

Suggestions are welcome!

Big, big fun. Put a lot of faces to names. Played some gigs, drove some miles, made some friends. Did a lot of picking, and some of the most fun was off-stage. Came back to play bass in a production of Guys and Dolls that I'd almost forgotten about, so I haven't really caught up on sleep yet.

See you May 5.

Thanks, Rev Hank. I posted the date on the site and assumed it was right.

John... good to hear the Caravan was a good time. I was about to ask you how it was, but Hank beat me to the punch.

Hey All,

The next HUG get together is this Monday, May 5 at the Celtic Corner in Dartmouth, from 7-9pm.

It would be nice to add to the format this week.

For those of you comfortable with showcasing your playing, it would be swell if you could perform a tune or 2 by yourself (or with a friend).  I'm sure we'd all like to hear each other.

If you any techniques (strums, solo playing, etc) you can share, time will be set aside for that as well.

There will also be our usual sing & strum along session.

Please bring along a tune or 2 (15 copies) to add to our repertoire.  As always, all levels of ukers, and ukies (uke groupies) are welcome.  There will be a couple of extra ukes around for those ukeless wonders.

HUG!!!

Mike

Hello everyone!

My name is Jenna. I live in Cole harbour. I havn;t been to a meeting yet because I tend to work nights but I was wondering if anyone here can answer a question of mine.

I have a Tenor Uke and I want to tune it to a low G setting. I need the strings for that but dont know where to get a low g string specifically. Do you guys know of any places in Halifax or Dartmouth that would carry these?

thanks for your help.

Jenna
