I am just starting to put together my rather small working space for building ukuleles and I came up with an idea that I thought I‚d share.

I was thinking today about my shop set up, which has got to be multipurpose and very tiny, since it is going in the garage and sometimes sharing it with my car when the weather is awful....and I struck upon an interesting idea for a portable work building station. It would be a cabinet @ 24‰ X 24‰X @ 30‰ tall on lockable wheel casters.

It would have a top and three enclosed sides and a bottom. On the open side of the cabinet give access to the inside.
Several pairs of slider rails would be mounted on two opposing sides to the left and right of the open side. I‚ll get back to those later.
The top would have four bolts, or dowels, extending up through the top, @ 1 1/2‰ from each corner.

Now the interesting part....I have seen a number of examples of various build-up jigs for uke making, such as one for holding the body mold clamp, the top/bottom-to-body attaching jig, neck holding jig, binding and trim jigs, etc. Usually I see these as separate wood jigs that are mounted on a bench or in a vise in a larger shop.
Instead, mount each jig on a MPB or plywood base sized to slide into the cabinet and rest on the slider rails. Each base would have four corresponding bolt holes to drop right in on the top for a quick clamp. On the side of the cabinet would be a vertically mounted large PVC plumbing pipe with the bottom capped, to hold Go-Bars. Slide all the jigs out of the cabinet and it doubles as a Go-Bar gluing station for tops and backs bracing.
What do you think?

How about a gateleg or similar extension to make the cab wider at times for resting places for tools, glue pots, clamps, etc?

BTW, 36" is standard kitchen counter-top, work area height.

Is the go-bar deck inside the box? Old and stiff, I can't work that low, but I did once upon a time, so if you are flexible you have a dandy idea.

The working height of the cabinet is relative to the jig that is sitting on top of it at the time.
If you add the height of say a body-to-side clamping jig, the working height will increase from 4" to @ 8".
Since size is an issue for me, i want to be able to wheel this cabinet through a typical door way width. i can put a low profile clamp hanger on the side of the cabinet. I do not want to add to it's width and restrict it's mobility, and I want to keep it's @ height of 30 inches tall, since i will be stacking the various working jigs on top of it.

Yes the Go-Bar function happens inside the cabinet, and do not have a problem with stooping for the brief time it would take to place the Go-Bars.
