I have a new uke, a Famous that I bought in Japan. cost 250. it has the factory strings.  I am a new player, my problem is that I cannot play chords that require putting pressure on 2 strings without putting a lot of pressure on the strings.  especiallly if it requries 3 strings. it is almost impossible if it requires 3 strings to cover.  the first string will not be have the required pressure to sound.  Is it the uke, the strings, or my technique
thanks

I just answered your other post but for some reason I'm chatty today.

What is the distance between the top of the frets and the bottom of the strings on the first fret and the last fret?

Up at the top of the neck the strings should be very close the the first fret. Somewhere along the lines of two or three (give or take) 3X5 index cards sliding between the fret and the string.

i agree, i think the action is too high, there is a guitar shop that specializes in repair and he said he could set it up for me
since he is doing this, what kind of strings should i put on it?

Aquilla Nylgut seem to be the favorite.  I use them myself.  I doubt he will have them in stock for a ukulele, though.  Maybe he does but I'm guessing you'll have to order them.  They are not hard to find.
