So here's another tourist in Hawaii who just had to buy a ukulele. I play 5 string banjo but I thought I'd fool around with a uke. After looking at the cheaper imports I really wanted to bring home something that was made here. I bought a concert-size KoAloha in Satin finish which (after some research) I believe is the pikake model. (now discontinued?) I paid $595 (total, no tax) for it which was supposedly a great deal of an offer. I don't suspect that's true, but I hope I didn't go too far wrong. It was the cheapest of the made in Hawaii concerts I found, and it does sound very nice and seems to be nicely made. It came with a case, extra Aquilla strings, and a little Mel Bay beginners booklet. Any input on my impulse buy would be appreciated. Aloha, 2 more days in paradise! Joe

Joe, The concert-size KoAloha is an excellent choice. Most think of it is their best uke. I also prefer the satin to the gloss finish which is a bit too thick in my opinion. I think that is about the going price for that model. Great uke...Play it in good health. William

They make a fantastic instrument. I'm in love with my KoAloha concert, I've had one for about 5 years. You're gonna love it; it sounds and plays great. See mine at http://www.youtube.com/thegentlesurprise

Thanks for responding Warndt. Upon spending a day trying to learn this cool instrument and checking it out on line a bit, I realize I purchased a real quality instrument at a good price. That was my intention all along. My apologies if I sounded a bit stingy earlier. Aloha all, Joe

You've got a beautiful uke in a Koaloha Concert. I have one I bought from MGM two years ago and I just love it. The sound is wonderful. I think Koaloha are one of the best sounding concerts available. Enjoy!

Beware the Ukulele, I also played 5string banjo and picked up a ukulele some 4 years ago. Since then I have sold all 3 of my banjos and the ukulele is the only thing I play. It is such a versitle insturment and so easy to travel with that it pushed the banjo away. I will be getting back to Maui in a few weeks, I trust I will be able to pick up another nice ukulele for my collection.
