Hi, Not new to uke but just haven't been paying attention. I want to suggest an inexpensive ukulele to a friend but do not know if there is a decent uke under $100? I have a flea and know they are great but need to go lower in price for them.

Can anyone suggest a laminet under 100 that is OK,

Thanks,

I think the Empire Music ukes are good value.

Thanks for the suggestion. They look like they are made well for a very low price. Have you ever tried one? It says they are a solid wood body?

see John Kavanagh's response here.

I had one of the triangle models and it was well made, but I did not like the shape and gave it to a friend as a starter instrument.

I doubt that the koa models shown are solid wood instruments at the prices shown. Remember that there are some great sounding laminates - I have one, at least to my ear. The veneer industry is very refined. You can buy 3 ply plywood for model aircraft with a total thickness of 1/64". It is possible to have a exotic wood skin over a body of mahogony that will still sound very good.

I got my Oscar Schmidt OU2 concert for $69 with free shipping. After I changed strings to Acquila Nygut it sounds great

I also have an Oscar Schmidt mine was 150 but I love it for my first uke. I DO need new strings though I can tell. but they seem descent for beginners. They seem well put together and I like the finish as well. Sound is good, but like I said I'm a beginner so i really wouldn't know good sound anyway haha

Also mine is a tenor, OU4 i think so that might be why mine was more expensive than abarts
