A uke is tuned GCEA, nose to toes. If you want that g string in standard uke tuning, it's high g. If you want a little more guitar like sound, go with low g. It's the sound, not the brand by high g or low g.
Low G is an octave lower than high g. Yes, you'll need special strings, found as "concert strings, Low g". Aquila, Worth, Fremont and others make them.
You should know if the G on your uke is high g now, it's a higher register than your C string. If you want that g in a lower pitch than your C string, this is low G.
