Hi All I've been messing around with a cheap Mahalo fo the past few weeks. I want toi get myself a decent soprano to take things further. I have come across a solid mahagony Mele. What I particularly like about it is that it has a slightly wider than usual fingerboard. Does anybody have experience of mele ukuleles? Regards Philip

I don't have any major expierience wiht Mele, only from hearing from other forums. All I can say is people say they crack/split if you do not humidify this uke. They are great sounding, but if you don't want to deal with a lot of humidifying then I would go with something else. I particularly am a huge fan of Kiwaya. I recently picked up a Kiwaya KS-2P pineapple soprano and it is serving me well!

The Kiwayas and Meles have very similar necks - both very slim. There are lots of varying opinions on Mele ukes, but for the price I reckon you get a nicely made uke with a lovely neck! Having said that, you can't go wrong with a Kiwaya! Another solid mahogany uke you might want to have a look at is Ohana SK-35 (matte or gloss). My experience is that these ukes are a bit louder than the Meles.
