I've gotten to the point where I can play a number of chords cleanly and can move between them without looking at my fingers. I want to start learning some beginner songs to help make this process more smoothly. My question is, how do you read the strumming pattern? [url=http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere?url=http%3A%2F%2Fhttp://www.ultimate-guitar.com%2Fprint.phpreplaceqmarkwhat%3Dtab%26id%3D349585&songbook=source&owner=m0boc&1944-06-06=always&transpose=&tuning=GCEA[/url] I know how it's suppose to sound, but I have trouble making it sound like that. I'm pretty sure it's indicated there but I have little to no idea how to read it correctly. Thanks for helping a newbie Can't get the link to to work, it's Stand by me on the site http://www.chordie.com Last edited on Tue Aug 5th, 2008 09:07 pm by Trotsky |

Sorry, but your posted web link above does not work. I can't help you much if I can't see the particular arrangement of "Stand By Me" you are having trouble with. Searching for that song at Chordie.com did not work - there are too many songbooks, and it takes too long to go through them.

I've been playing guitar for a few decades (ukes for the last several months) and I can never figure out someone else's rhythm. I just strum the way it sounds right to me. That's probably not very professional, but it works for me.

Ralph Shaw has a great strumming DVD called "Essential Strums for the Ukulele. Sometimes getting the right strum is actually a little more difficult than one would think, if you're doing it right. I love this DVD. Good luck!
