Alright, I'm completely new to the whole ukulele scene and I really want to give it a shot, so, based on a few friend's suggestions I decided to go with the lanikai s-c concert size. It has a solid spruce top, etc. Anyhow, When I went to look where to order from, I found two rather conflicting circumstances.

I found this which looks identical to the one my friend owns.

And this on nearly every other online retail page

Is there a difference? Should I ditch buying online altogether? I've never bought an instrument over the internet before, and naturally, I'm a little wary. I tried elderly.com,  but they didn't carry that particular model. Thanks a bunch in advance guys.

Both listings describe the same uke.  With a solid spruce top, it's a good, affordable choice for a starter instrument.  I own one myself.  These recordings were made on the Lanikai S-C concert uke, with low-G Nylgut strings:

Ok, thanks a bunch will.  I'm excited to get started. And kudos on the recordings. Lovely tone.

I'm not personally familiar with Lanikai ukes, but just looking at the pics something ain't right. The one on the samedaymusic site looks like an all-laminate koa model, even though the description says "solid spruce top and mahogany back/sides". The one on the active musician site looks correct, with a spruce top, and I can't see it, but most likely it has mahogany back/sides.

But it's really a crap shoot ordering online, unless it's from a seller like "music guy mike", who has a good reputation, and usually posts pics of the actual uke. If you have any available locally, I've found that ultimately it's the best way to go. But if not, for $99, I'd give the active musician's offering a shot. You can always return it, just losing the shipping costs.

Maybe others with experience with Lanikai ukes will chime in.

Good luck :D

Yes, the photo that Same Day Music uses is the wrong one.

I ordered my Lanikai S-C for $99 from Harp Depot in 2004, before they were replaced by the Bushman ukes.  Most of my ukes and guitars were ordered on-line.
