Hi everyone, I am new to the forums and I will be a beginner Ukulele player. I was wondering what type of uke I should look into buying if I am going to be eventually creating songs. My voice range is probably baritone or tenor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Honestly, I don't think it matters.  I have approximately the same vocal range, and I own a soprano, a concert (alto), and a baritone.  I can sing along with all three really happily and comfortably.

As for songwriting, I am convinced that George Harrison used ukelele to compose some of his best known songs.  Some of his riffs are incredibly simple on the uke, even when they have really weird chord names attached to them.

Thanks for your input. For some reason I just thought it would be suitable to have a Tenor Ukulele since I sing mostly tenor and baritone.

they are actually all tuned to the same frequencies, but the larger (or smaller) soundboxes create deeper (or higher) undertones.   I started with soprano and worked my way down, but I still love them all, and sing with them all.  But if you can sing a song in C with a soprano, you won't be able to sing it in a C with a tenor either.

I think BartlebysUke meant If you can't sing a song in C on a soprano, you won't be able to sing in in C on a tenor.

There seems to be a bit of confusion over the terms "soprano, tenor, and baritone" due to their use to also describe vocal ranges of singers.  These terms, as applied to ukuleles, describe a different size of ukulele, and are not analogous to their use for voice.  Soprano, concert, and tenor are tuned the same way (GCEA), and have the same tonal range, but the larger body size of the tenor uke accentuates the lower notes more than the smaller soprano and concert ukes.  The baritone uke is indeed lower in pitch because it is tuned DGBE instead of GCEA.  In other words, the size of the uke may be chosen independent of your vocal range.  After all, singers of any range can accompany themselves with a standard tuned guitar.
