Hi everyone!  So, I'm waiting by the mailbox for my first ukulele, which I ordered from Flea Market Music the other day.  I want to hit the ground running as soon as it comes, so can anyone give me advice about finding music for the ukulele?  I ordered a couple Jumping Jim books, but I'm hoping to learn some contemporary music, like various indie things.  Is there anywhere in the world you could find this for the ukulele?  Would I be better off just tuning my ukulele like a guitar and using guitar music?  Or is there a simple way to convert guitar music (my music theory is a little rusty, but I can think of some very time consuming ways to do it!  Any hints though?)  Where do you guys go for music and all that sort of stuff???

Thanks so much in advance!  This forum has been so helpful to browse through!

Try this Ukulele Beatles site.  It has Beatles 63 songs arranged for ukulele:

A great site for finding contemporary songs you can uke to is:

http://www.chordie.com/

For many songs the fingerings for the chords are shown, and while the default instrument setting is guitar you can select the ukulele also.  You can also even adjust the key up or down by semi-tones (half steps) to suit you.  It's been a great resource for me as I learn to play the uke!

I have found that songs that have guitar chords are the same chords for the ukulele.  The only difference is the string positions or chord shapes.  The above websites are great, however, there will be a time were there are no uke chord illustrated diagrams.

I'd like to second the mentions of chordie.com and alligatorboogaloo, both of which provide fingerings for chords.  If you are looking for more voicings and chord charts, separate from arrangements of any particular song, Brian's Huge Chordlist [http://chordlist.brian-amberg.de/en/ukulele/standard/Emaj9/da.html] is the place to go.  It's stunningly comprehensive.

I just registered because I wanted to thank you (and the others) for the links to song tabs. But expecially for this link to Brian's Huge Chordlist. It was exactly what I was looking for. So many tunes sound bare and frankly similar (I don't sing) and can use a little spicing up. The way this is set up is just the tool for trying different fingerings for the same chord progression.

I've only been playing for a week, and I am by no means a musician, but this has improved my little tunes by a thousandfold already. Just having more than one C chord to play makes each tune much more interesting and beautiful.

Thanks again.

Thanks Yoik!  The other sites were key to getting me started, but I find I go to Brian's more than anywhere else these days, and I have been surprised not see him mentioned by anyone else hereabouts.
