hi

Just a quick question...why do some sopranos have 12 frets, others 15? Whats the standard?

Traditionally, sopranos were mostly 12 fret.  15 frets extend the range of the instrument to 2 octaves (C to C).  Those last 3 frets don't get used much, but sooner or later you'll probably use one or two.  Jake Shimabukuro's "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" requires 15 frets.  I do "They Can't Take That Away From Me" in Bb, and need fret 13.  Improvised lead work occasionally gets me up in that area.  12 is plenty for accompaniment.
