Ok as I written before I am new to the Uke, but I like buying things so I usually buy two or three of something when I'm new to it. I do this so I know for sure if it is the item or me, I would hate to have given up on something only to find out I had a bad whatever, with this method I know its me and n0ot a bad Ukulele for instance Only here i seem to be getting the hang of it ok. Alright so here goes, everyone mentioned getting Aquila Nygut (SP?) today my Oscar Scmidt arrived, great uke from what I've learned so far, it has Grover tuners, and seems to be holding tune well, it came with VINCI Nygut strings. these also seem to play well, and hold tune well. So the question is, while Aquila Nygut was recommended was aquila or Nygut strings that we are looking for, basically are Nygut strings better strings in general, also up front I apologize for the misspelling of Nygut and Aquila, hopefully yaw know what I'm referring to.

Thanks again

Ken

One more quick question when i was younger I always liked the Applause Ovation guitar, the one with the round back, and no center sound hole, it looks like two feathers on either side of the strings and each of these has two or three holes, they make a uke version, is it recommended

It's Aquila Nylgut.  Only Aquila has nylgut.  If you like the Vinci, keep 'em on.  Nylgut are a better string though, you may be surprised.

Lots of folks like the applause uke.

Thanks,

I bought what they had, check out item number 290170501148 on eBay. I like what these do if the Nylgut is better they must be super easy, when I get done with these i'll get osme of them, other than eBay, and online I havn't seen them at any of the local music stores

By the way, I see the the difference Nylgut vs. Nygut. has anyone had experience with these other than me... the new guy... that doesn't know enough yet to get out of my own way. I will say the Vinci Nygut are better than the set that came with my UK 70, and smoother than the set of Martins I replaced those with.

Oh by the way I also bought an Applause Ovation Soprano this is not the electric version, personally I don't like electric acoustic guitars/instruments.... any who, I still plan on getting something in a Tenor for Christmas, but I've always wanted an Ovation Applause Acoustic Guitar, and this is the next best thing, also everywhere I looked on line was out of stock for this version the soprano version that is, Basically it is a Soprano not there electric concert, which brings me back to a string question; Can I put Concert strings on a Soprano Ukulele

Thanks again

Ken

PS a quick review of the Washburn OU-5 vs. the Samick UK-70 the strings are nicer, ok enough about that, the action is nicer, the grover tuners are better. that said, the frets are rough on the edges it seems they may have to be filed or sanded down I'm lazy so they'll probably just keep digging away at my fingers until I bleed, just kidding, they are rough though but that's my only complaint.

Back to strings and something I never knew, you probably all already knew but for those hat don't, the owners manual recomends changing strings one at a time, never removing all the strigns at once, this keeps the neck from twisting, keeps the action good etc. I worked on cars as a kid so I kind of figured it would be best to tune the strings much like torqueing lug nuts down.

Thanks for the vote Ken, I do appreciate.

I've never heard of Nygut, but if you're happy with a string, keep it.  The string of choice for me is either Worth CD or the new Fremont strings, just bought 10 sets from MGM, you may find you like the Aquilla, or you may like the Vinci, it's all in how you like 'em.

Martin gets a bad rap for their strings, but I think that those that use 'D' tuning like them very much.  D tuning is adf#b, a step up from gcea, so that may be why some dislike the Martin strings, too floppy in 'c' tuning.

As far as changing, it makes really no difference.  Nylon and flourocarbon don't really put a lot of tension on the neck anyway, and the ukes you have are decent enough not to be affected by taking all the strings off.  Sometimes you have to just to get the dang thing really clean:shock:

Peace

Neal

Thanks Neal,

Any advice is needed, and appreciated, Thanks a lot, I know for now the Vinci strings are better than whatever it was that came with the Samick UK70, I have an Ovation Applause mini Uke i think it is something like a UA205E coming, I may give the Samick to my son and keep the Washburn OU5 for myself, either that or I'll buy him whichever of the three he likes. So far this has been a blast, I'm also only strumming for now. But it seems to be coming together well, I may start over, using different cords, acting as if I don't know anything and learning something other than A, C, D, F, G, and G7. I was told a lot could be played just using a C, F, and G, or G7 - 145 scale, but I need to learn more about it, again it all see to be coming together fast. any advice on starter songs would be cool, or good beginner sites/books

Thanks again

Ken

Oh yea, where do I get your CD, or are you on iTunes
