I don't know the first tuner, but I use the second. I've found it very reliable and perfect for gigs because of the lighted screen. I can easily see if I'm in tune or not.

Clip-on tuners seem to be very popular nowadays.  In addition to a built-in microphone, it can also be set to sense vibrations from the instrument (you clip it on the end of the headstock); this is handy in a noisy room where other musicians are either playing or also tuning.

I'm most familiar with the type of tuner that has the built-in microphone, and also has a direct 1/4" "line" input; handy if you have an acoustic-electric instrument (it's not really a LINE input like an electronic keyboard, because the signal level is at about the same level as a microphone).

I own both types of tuners.

Will, I have the second tuner (Intelli IMT 500) and love it.  Because it tunes according to vibrations instead of sound, one can tune their uke in any noisy setting.  But....does the other tuner also tune according to vibrations...or not?  If not, that would explain the cost difference, making it worth the extra $10 for the tuner one can use in any noisy setting.

They are both comparable tuners; the inherent advantage of a clip-on tuner is the ability to sense vibrations.  Clip-on tuners aren't perfect, however; I have found that sometimes overtones will confuse the tuner and it will register the wrong note, or the LED display will go blank because it can't figure out what note is being played.

I own over a dozen electronic tuners.  The very best one I've ever used is the one I bought during the Music123 clearance sale last year (they sold out at $8 each).  This tuner is the fastest and most responsive tuner I've ever used, and it outperforms all of my more expensive tuners.  It has a single LED that lights up green when it's spot-on, yellow when the note is flat, and red when it's sharp.  It has both a chromatic tuning mode and a violin/mandolin dedicated tuning mode.  It's my "go-to" tuner when I need to tune my autoharp or 12-string guitar in the shortest amount of time.  In a noisy room, I have to use the cable option (I have a pickup in my autoharp and a sound hole pickup for guitars).  This tuner is no longer sold in the U.S. - I've only seen listings for it in Europe and Australia.

However, there is a successor to this tuner sold by Amazon.com, called the Intelli-203 tuner that has all of the above features, plus a built-in digital thermometer and humidity hygrometer, for $22.

I have two of the INTELLI-IMT-500 and would never want anything else.  Plus the green background light is totally cool!

I have an IMT-500, but only use it away from the house, and then simply because it's so small and fits the little compartment in the uke case. Compared to two other chromatic tuners I use, it simply isn't very accurate. The IMT shows the string "in tune" over a wider range than either a QuikTune or Korg.

I think the IMT gets you pretty close, but tuning isn't really horseshoes...

I know there are other more excellent tuners out there, but the main reason for my deep and abiding love for this particular model is because it's so small, and clips-on to the head of the uke and stays there both when it's in and out of the case.  I never remove it, or lose it.

All its other advantages have been mentioned already.  Although mine has so far proved to be right-on with its tuning, I could tell if it wasn't, and would make the tiny adjustments as necessary.  Compared with my steel guitar, tuning my uke is an absolute piece of cake. :D

I bought one of these tuners:

http://cgi.ebay.com/4-STRING-UKULELE-ELECTRONIC-DIGITAL-MINI-TUNER-CLIP-ON_W0QQitemZ230237051225QQihZ013QQcategoryZ16224QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It was very inexpensive ($0.99! plus shipping, of course). It works well enough. Has both D and C keys (don't forget to change the switch to the correct key when you use it!).

I like the digital tuners better than the pitchpipe, but I carry both in my case, should the battery run low.
