Ordering strings shouldn't be this hard....  I'm trying to buy some Worth strings and don't understanding all their terminology.  What's a Worth BM Medium clean?  Does the BM just mean medium brown, and if so, what does clean mean?  And what's CD mean, and what's the difference between 'bright' and 'clear'?  Thanks to anybody who can help.

For your long-neck soprano?  Here are some Worth BMs.  Buy them, put them on, and play.  Oh yeah.

scrooner, you're more help than your worth.  (get it, Worth?) :D  Actually, I'd do that IF I didn't also need the same set with the low G as well.  What do I do now?

I find that strings are very un-scientific, especially when it comes to Worth strings.  What works well for one uke may not work so well for another.  I think in general, Worht BM (Brown Medium) or CD (Clear Dense) are good starting points.  If you put it on and find that you prefer some different properties, switch to the other type.

For instance, you might put BM's on your uke and find that you'd like either more tension or a brighter sound.  CD's should provide those properties so try a set of those.

Or you might have started off with some CD's and want less tension, so you might switch to a set of BM's or even BL (Brown Light).

It's a lot of trial and error for sure.  Unfortunately, there really isn't any concrete rules when it comes to what strings fit a particular uke.

Ok now, what's a "light" string?  Does that mean they're easier to push down to the fret?  Or lighter in color....  Why don't they make the Brown ones in all 'styles' so we don't have to use clear-colored ones.  The brown ones look soooo much better on my ukes.

Ok, I'm trying to order with Elderly...but now, is it safe to give them my Credit Card number.  I thought maybe they'd take Paypal, but it looks like they don't.

Ukeconomics, are you trying to out-clever me?  haha

I did it.  Now my husband has to pay for them, which is an advantage of using that card.  Thanks, hun.

Yea, tha'd be nice if mgm would cut the strings in half but I guess nobody does.  But you do get twice as much for the money. ;)

Thanks for ALL your good help and pathetic attempts at humor. :)

If anyone's looking for Worth CD, get a set of Fremont from MGM.  You'll like them.

Neal, what difference do you sense between the Worth and Fremont?

I was using Aquilas for awhile, and like how they sounded. But after trying my first set of Worths, I much prefer them. They sound, in my opinion, a bit brighter in tone, but more, they seem finished much more nicely. Aquilas I've tried gave a lot of finger noise moving up and down the string. The Worths seem more polished, much quieter. Are the Fremonts more like the Aquilas or Worths in that regard?

Do you happen to know where they are made?

They are made in Japan.  I use Worth CD, and have Fremont on 2 Kiwaya ukes.  No real difference.  Both Fluorocarbon, whatever that means.

I was an Aquila fan also, but for the same reasons as you....

However if someones is coming from guitar, they may like the feel of Aquila.  Big strings.
