Does anybody know of a Site that lets you choose chords you need for a song and then print them out on one page?  Thanks

There are a number of sites that let you transpose the given chords.  You put in the chord and say change it to xxx.

I'll get back with a link.  I don't have it off the top of my head.  You might do a Google for "chords, transposing" or other such key words.

Richard has a CIRCLE OF 5ths on the site that you can use to transpose with.  You just select the current key, set the desired key, and then simply read off the new chords/notes.

For example if you are using a C F G format, and want it in A, you select the base key (C) and the desired key (A) turn the wheel to line up and read A D E.

Solana,  I'll study that site.  I don't have a Song to input.  What I want to do is tell it which uke chords I want and then get the tablature for each chord on one page so I can print it out.  I have 28 chords (some repeat) and I want them side by side from the first to the last on one page.

I'll try to find the Site for guitars that does it so you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I just found a Uke grid paper you can print out if you want to pencil in the tab yourself, which is better than nothing.  Also...you can print out just ONE of those pages, you don't have to print out all 8.  I wanted the 4th page so when the print screen came up, I told it to print from pg. 4 to pg. 4 and that's all I got.  Now I'll just make copies of that for other songs I want to tab out.  Here's the Site:

Thanks for that link.   I need to study that one.  Here's a good guitar chord generator for anybody that needs one.  It's real straightforward.

Hey EZ,  that one that Solena gave you there,  Gootar will do what you want I think, I used it for 2 or 3 years and you might have to purchase it to get the full benifit from it, but select your chord and save it then when you have all of them you can hit display them and they will pop up on a single sheet and then hit print.

I understand that helps very much to learning a song

Charlie,  I put into Gootar the chords for "Girl from Ipanema" which I got from the VERY USEFUL DVD called, "Essential Strums for the Ukulele" by Ralph Shaw.  When I clicked on the chord F#9 in Gootar, it showed the wrong chord, or so I think.

Ralph Shaw demonstrates the F#9 with the third fret basically barred, along with the 1st three strings of the 4th fret.  In essence, the index finger is on the 4th string at the 3rd fret and the middle finger barrs strings 1,2, and 3 at the 4th fret.

But Gootar showed a different chord shape, which didn't sound right and looks like this: The first fret is barred and the middle finger frets the 2nd string at the 2nd fret.  If somebody could check this out for me I'd really appreciate it.  I don't think that Gootar simply gave a different fingering for the same chord because it doesn't sound right at all.

The chord called F#9 by Mr. Shaw is shaped like the C#m6 on my Basic Ukulele Chord Chart.  Now this confuses me much.  And I can't find a chord that looks like that in Gootar, as Gootar doesn't shape either the F#9 or the C#m6 like that.

P.S.  I don't work for Ralph Shaw selling this DVD, I'm just thoroughly impressed with it.  Learning these strums like Bossa Nova, Triple Strum, Samba, Swing, Reggae, and many more, along with the chords and songs makes your Ukulele SING.  I've never gotten such good sound out of my uke and that's the truth.

Edit... my chord chart shows that the shape of the F#9 and C#m6 chords are the same shape, the shape Mr. Shaw gives for the F#9 in the song.  Neither of those chords is shaped like that in Gootar nor do they sound like they belong in the song.

Also....I found that on Gootar the F#9 at the 4th fret shows the shape to be the 4th fret fully barred, which sounds very similar to the sound Mr. Shaw gave with his F#9 chord shape, which is the same except he frets the 4th string at the 3rd fret, which sounds better.  The song has very unusual chords with no straighforward major or minor chords, and alot of sharps, m6 or 9ths, etc.  Very pretty sounds.  Anybody know what 'Mode' this could be?

Hey EZ,  try doing all open strings and see how that sounds, seems like I ran into that some time back on a song.

On the gootar site, make sure you put in the key of C or what ever key you are playing in. It is in a small block down at the first column at the bottom.

I notice it was set for key of A when I looked at it.

Charlie,  Time to vent, a result of my frustration with Gootar.

Where you said the Key is located....I wondered what those notes were there for because Gootar doesn't tell us.  In fact, Gootar doesn't explain what many of those numbers and letters stand for (V16? Q4? etc)  And the "Root" inserts the checkmark all by itself, I don't know what that's all about.  Music theory is hard enough, Gootar seems to make it harder, and somewhat inaccurate.

Need I say, so far I don't think too much of Gootar.  Do you suppose they leave out the essential explanations so you'll buy it?  If so, that's why I won't buy it, because I'm afraid they won't give the explanations in the purchased product either.  If their chord diagrams can't be trusted, I don't need that.

I tried the "all-open" chord and unfortunately it doesn't sound right either.  Is there no other ukulele chord generator besides Gootar on the Net?  The only 'other' one I saw was in Geocities and it ended up being Gootar too.

Maybe Gootar needs some good competition.  I'd be willing to pay for it, because oftentimes I need to generate chords for songs.

Edit:  The right diagram for F#9 can be seen at the following link.  Just pust F# in the first row and then the number 9 in the second row:

Have you seen this one:

http://www.sheep-entertainment.nl/ukulele/index.html

It's great! Makes it easy to write your own arrangments using different chord voicings etc. Just make sure to select "soprano or tenor C" in the upper right hand corner, because the default key is "soprano D".

As far as writing out (tab) your songs, you can download a free demo version of "tabledit", which can be adapted for 4-string instruments. I have it, but haven't taken the time to figure out how to use it yet :)

TomHB,

That sheep site is the one I just gave in the post above yours.  I have Tabledit but like you, don't really know how to use it.  The time I tried to put chords on the page, it didn't let me control where they went, I just remember giving up on it.

If someone here does, could you tell us how to make chords to print out using it?  Thanks.

Ah, your post wasn't showing here when I posted the sheep site.

I haven't found any way to make chord boxes with tabledit, but hopefully someone who knows how to use it will chime in with some hints. I suppose I could read the instructions, and I guess I'll have to. I wish there was some "intuitive" software to use that didn't require a degree in IT to operate.

Edit: Just been poking around tabledit, and the tutorial, and it may not be that hard. Has a uke setting, and chord charts. Just'll take a little study time to figure it out. In fact I believe it can create a chord chart just by the tab you write. Interesting.

It would be nice to be able to document our various arrangements, so probably worth figuring out.

Tom,

You hit the nail on the head.  The program is so complicated it's unuseful, at least for me.  I can't find any buttons for showing a Uke 4-string display and I can't find anything about chord charts.  The program says it has both, but they must be hidden in a secret place....

I'm posting this "Guitar" chord generator one more time because it's the perfect example of what I need for the Uke.  Just click on a note and see all the possible chord variations for it.  Then just put a checkmark in the one you want and move on to the next chord...pretty soon you have all your chords tabbed out in a chord chart on a page to print out.  You get to Title the song too, and save it.  It's disgustingly simple, just what I need.  I'd give my eye teeth if somebody would do this for the Uke.

http://www.chordguide.com/guitar/chords.asp?note=d

Edit:  when I say "chords tabbed out" what I mean is you get the 'chart' for each chord with the circles in the frets where your fingers go, not the numbers on the 4 strings....that's actually called tablature.  So I misspoke.

Open TablEdit, hit the "score" menu on top, then click "instrument". A box will open. Hit the second tab "tuning" and select "ukulele" from the drop down menu. It will automatically change to 4 strings, and C tuning.

From the "display" menu on top, go down to "pallettes" and check "tools" (you'll use "notes" and other pallettes as well). On tools you'll see a chord chart. Click that and a chord manager opens. From what I've read, you can download chord charts that have been uploaded by TablEdit users. I haven't done that yet, but maybe this will help get you started. Frankly, I, and anyone using this program, will just have to take some time and follow the tutorials, which can be downloaded from here (below) in WinHelp, html and .pdf forms:

Tom,  thanks so much for that help.  I'll open it in the morning and make those good discoveries.  I know its a complex program for people who want a lot more from it than I do.  I'm half asleep right now but this'll give me something to look forward to.  Thanks! :D

My TablEdit program is Version 4.  At the screen which comes up (TefView 2.64) none of those words you mentioned are there (there's no "instrument" under Score, there's no "Pallettes" under Display, etc...)

I've contacted the company so maybe I needed to download some updates long ago.  I'm afraid to download Version 5, thinking it'll be that much more confusing than Version 4 is.

"Tefview" is just a tab/file viewing program. Only for opening/viewing tabs written with TablEdit, not for writing tabs. You need to download the actual "TablEdit" program to write tabs.

The first program on this page:
http://www.tabledit.com/download/index.shtml

Also download one of the manual/tutorials right below the program. I downloaded the acrobat version, unzipped to my desktop. 170 pages, so I'm not about to print it out. Just gonna browse it and learn enough to get by :D

Thanks for letting me know and for the link.  It's too hard.  I'm too tired.  I copied your post into a doc for future reference.  I'm losing spirit.  Thanks again!
