The only post I could find on the Triple Strum described it this way: "My version of this is an index finger down stroke, followed by the thumb, and then the index finger on the up stroke." Is that just his way or the way 'they teach' this strum? Does anybody know of an MP3 or YouTube video or audio on the Net where I can 'hear it'? I looked at Richard's strums in his Tutorial but found nothing that said triplet. (Did I miss it?) Thanks. Edit....found a few on YouTube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RyxSed6yb2Q http://youtube.com/watch?v=MqGpL6As938&feature=related Anybody know what this strum is called? His downstroke with the thumb only plays the G string: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wTgqW6hqpfA&feature=related Last edited on Sun Jan 27th, 2008 03:09 am by ezmember |

Jake Shimibukaro teaches a triplet strum on Midnight Ukulele disco. Loosely make a gun with your strum hand, strum down with the nails of the two middle fingers that are tucked inside, then continue to follow the strum down towards the outside of the ball of your thumb, then back up with the ball of your thumb. For me, it was painful to develop due to strumming with the thin skin on the outside of my thumb. It's very awkward at first, but keep doing it, slowly, gradually build up speed. If you use this strum alot like me you may eventually establish a caluss on the side of your thumb. By that time this strum will feel very natural to you. It can be used much like a drummer uses triplet fills. Like Jake says, the goal is to be able to relax the wrist and let it fly. Last edited on Sun Jan 27th, 2008 11:50 pm by JohnB |
