Having the low G string will certainly make your ukulele sound different than with re-entrant tuning, but this tuning does allow you to play a "bass" line, as well as lower melody notes that can be played within the chord shapes.
For a more interesting strum pattern using the low-G tuning, try an "alternating bass" strum... Pick a song with a strong beat. Play the chords in this fashion: 1) strike only the low-G string first with your thumb (the "bass" note), then strum the other three strings with your fingers (I use my thumb). On the next beat, strike the 2nd lowest string (the C), and then strum the highest 2 strings with your fingers. Repeat the pattern.
