A jammin buddy of mine was playing Kentucky Moonshine today, and I love the song. I jotted down the lyrics and chords, so I have them. I googled the song and found it listed on a Pure Prairie league album...that's it. I haven't found any more on the song. Anyone know anything more about it, or is Pure Prairie League's own stuff? I was kind of hoping it would be a pre 1923 song, I'd love to make it my next project.

1four5...

It's not an old one... it was written by Larry Goshorn, who was a member of Pure Prairie League.

:hat:

After some more searching, I also found it listed as a record single from the 50's by someone named Hobo Jack Adkins. I reached the end of the internet, and cannot find anything else about the song/author/copyrite info. The guy who played it today did it completely off the top of his head...he said it was a country standard his band had covered many years ago, he didn't know anymore about it than that. Here's the lyrics I was abole to write down today (from my buddies memory)

Sometimes Kentucky moonshine
Is sweeter than the sweetest whine
When I'm lonely you make me sing the blues
Kentucky moonshine I love you

Sometimes you're like Kentucky moonshine
You're sweeter than the sweetest whine
When I'm lonely you make me sing the blues
Kentucky moonshine I love you

Kentucky whiskey make ya feel so fine
Open up your eyes and give your nose a shine
Get's me deep inside just like your lovin do
And makes it hard to chose between the moonshine and you
When I'm lonely you make me sing the blues
Kentucky moonshine I love you, yes I do
Kentucky moonshine I love you

Edit: I think we were typing at the same time Richard! Is it ok to leave these lyrics up? I don't know how close they are to the real song (I've never even heard the PPL version that I know of) but I don't want any copyrite trouble. I also don't know if the Hobo Jack Adkins version is the same song, but it's the same title.

I was listening to my old Pure Prairie League album (that's right, I said album) last night and was trying to find the chords for Kentucky Moonshine and have come up squat. You said you jotted down the chords, would you be kind enough to share.

THanks in advance.

BTW, I was reading note on the ablum and I believe Chet Atkins plays on this song.

Hi Funinks! Keep in mind, I've never heard the recorded version, All I know is what my friend played. It's become one of our favorite lunchtime jam songs! This is how we've been playing it!
