In another thread Ira mentioned that everything is a subject for a song, and listening to all the home brewed songs here is awesome! I'm finding that sometimes all it takes is for someone to say something, and I'll use it as a starting line and a song unfolds. Sometimes I'll get a good starting line, but then it just sits there in my brain. Just for fun, I've wondered what would happen if different people got together, to add the next idea or line or verse or whatever. Anyone want to add a line to this idea? Maybe it will turn into something.

I'm living in the past

Drinking about the future...

1four5-

A while back Richard and I and someone else kind of kicked this idea around, then the Host and the Audio Host kind of took over and nothing ever came of it.

Lets see if anybody else is interested in composition by collaboration.

Oops! didn't realize that you already had a starting line. I'll have to work on that!

I've been a forum junkie since the late 90's in other subjects...and one of the ways we would have fun, especially when the topics were slow, was to start a BS story and everyone would add a line to the story. The threads would go on forever, some became classics. Putting that same theory to something as simple as adding a line to a song, could really come up with unique ideas.

Living in the past

Drinking about the future

Not sure what I did

But I think I'm gonna loose her...

My my Tim...you done put on a few pounds over the holidays!

Living in the past
Drinking about the future
Not sure what I did
But I think I'm gonna loose her

Won't be the worst thing
That ever happened to me
need to quit thinkin
and get back to my drinkin

Lonely days are near
Pass me another beer
I wonder if she'll miss me
Better make that a whiskey

Dark days ahead
Blues swimmin in my head
My eyes fadin to red
Drownin the future I dread

Hey, this topic I know something about!!!

Great first line!!

Living in the past
Drinking about the future
Not sure what I did
But I know I'm gonna loose her

Won't be the worst
that's ever happened
Might be the best

It could ever be

need to quit this thinkin
and get back to my drinkin

(some kind of repeated refrain perhaps)

Lonely days are near
Pass me another beer
I wonder if she'll miss me
Better make that a whiskey

Dark days ahead
Blues swimmin in my head
My eyes fadin to red
Drownin the future I dread

Like a weight I’ve always worn

I seen it comin for so long

Though it’s the way it ought to be

I'm still drinkin misery

If misery's my lot

And who's to say its not

With friends like Bud and Jack

guess I'll never make it back

The past's a place I see

The future may never be

Living there instead of here

seems to take away my fear

(gotta quit this thinkin)

(and get back to drinkin)

This song is gonna rock!!:guitar1: Who's gonna record it?

Now that's what I'm talking about!!! Thanks Frets and 3Finger! I sat down this morning and here's my version putting it all together...don't get your hopes up too high...just two tracks and only a couple takes, so it's pretty rough (with my rotten singing...). It's also the first song I recorded on my Blue Ukulele. Would be interesting to hear what you'all would come up with out of this!

Bluesman, just a born bluesman:glasses1: I don't think I could improve that one, Dean. Very, very nice:tears: The BlueUke has some seriously good tone!

Hey thanks Tim!!! I was trying to use blues chords...but it wasn't fitting too good...so I used some of the stuff we've been doing at work. Lets see if I can remember the prosgression...BTW...DON'T even think about not coming up with your version...you alway add cool stuff to our songs. I'd also love to hear what NOS could do with it:uke:

Here's what I used:

First part:

D-D(with E string open)-G-G7-D-DwEso-A6(full second fret bar)-A7-D-DwEso-G-G7-D-A6-D

Other part:

F#m-Bm-F#m-Em-F#m-Bm-Em-A7-D

Here's how I stacked the lyrics:

Living in the past
Drinking about the future
Wonderin what I did
Knowin I'm gonna loose her
Living in the past
Drinking about the future
Wasting today away

Lonely days are near
Pass me another beer
I wonder if she'll miss me
Better make that a whiskey

Won't be the worst thing
That ever happened to me
need to quit thinkin
and get back to my drinkin
Might be the best
it could ever be
Wastin today away

Dark days ahead
Blues swimmin in my head
My eyes fade to red
Drownin the future I dread

Like a weight Ive always worn
I seen it comin for so long
Though its the way it ought to be
I'm still drinkin misery
Living in the past
Drinking about the future
Wastin today away

If misery's my lot
And who's to say its not
With friends like Bud and Jack
guess I'll never make it back

The past's a place I see
The future may never be
Living there instead of here
seems to take away my fear
Living in the past
Drinking about the future
Wastin today away

I-IV-V

Love what you did with this!

Funny thing, tho, that Blue Uke sounds awfully like a tenor g-tar to me! I guess my ancient old ears just relate Ukelele to Soprano Uke. (Insert senior moment icon of your choice here)

Thanks Frets and Brad! Thanks again for adding to this thread. I didn't know if there would be much interest in the idea...and it's awesome to see that there is!!! I hope a lot more of this will go on...I know that Tim3Finger is always coming up with killer lines.

As for the tenor guitar...I really don't know what the construction differenciation would be between a tenor guitar or a Bari uke, other than the smaller size of the uke...other than that, they are basically the same instrument. Of course I've heard of different tunings which would set them apart such as re-intrant for uke or other than DGBE for the tenor. I'm not ready for complicating things and love my simple DGBE tuning and the simplicity of 4 strings. I'm really not too concerned with what classification my blue uke (or little blue tenor guitar)  falls into...other than it's my baby and I love it!:) It does have much more of a PUNCH than my factory built ukes, and way more volume. It's definately not mello or have that soft "straight to your heart" tone like Tim's Lanikai koa bari uke. Tim's Lanikai has a very full tone with more sustain, my blue uke has a very simple loud punch tone. The scale length and overall length of Ukeyblue is the same as a production bari, but it's body is a little fatter/deeper...contributing to more base, and tenor guitar type sound.

Speaking of the little blue uke...I did some really raunchy blues about putting it together...here's the song Ukey Blue

That was fun. Just looking for a way to add to it without taking away from what you did.

I think folks should still feel free to fiddle or uke with it and see what they come up with. Maybe even take it in a different direction....

Your picture is better than the one I found...much better blue mood! You are right Frets, I love to see a different directions. Tim3Finger is REALLY good at this, I'll come up with something, he'll get his hands on it, and the next time I hear it it's totally different and totally cool. He's also a very good strummer (something I still can't do) and he can completely change the feel of a song with strum patterns. Tim is also really good at writing. He'll come up with a progression...I'll pop off an opening line off the top of my head, and an hour later he has a whole song ready to go. We were working on getting his computer set up to record last week...once he's got that under control, I'm hoping he starts cranking out some of his stuff!
