Hey guys -- Great Site.

I was searching for Doc's version of Tom Dooley when I ran across this site.  I can find lot's of Kingston Trio stuff -- but no Doc stuff.

Thanks

Rye

Rye-

If you're lookin' for Doc stuff, it may be hard to find - most of his stuff is protected, and therefore tabs or music might be scarce.

You might try some of the flat-picking sites, or try some Google searches. There was some Doc stuff in Acoustic Guitar a couple of years ago, but I don't think it was "Tom Dooley".

Good luck, and thanks for stopping by - don't be a stranger, now, y'hear? :farmer:

:thumbs2: Keep on pickin'
Brad

Thanks Brad,

I'll probably stick around for a while if y'all don't throw me out.

There is actually a lot of Doc's stuff out there.  But just not what I'm looking for.  I think JD Crow or someone else has also done the Tom Dooley version I'm looking for.  I'll keep looking.

Hey Rye,

Good to see somebody local on here! (I'm from Gastonia).

Are you looking for an arrangement for guitar, clawhammer banjo, or bluegrass banjo? Seems like I've only heard Doc play that on guitar. The tune is a little different the way he sings it (and plays it) but it's still just a simple 3-chord song.

There's an arrangement in the 1971 Oak Publications book "The Songs of Doc Watson." It's in the key of A -- playing in G (G, C, and D) with the capo on the 2nd fret.
