Here are some sites that I have found or been pointed to that are repositories of lyrics, tunes, background, and other items of interest. Max Hunter Folk Song Collection: http://www.missouristate.edu/folksong/MaxHunter/index.html Wolf Folklore Collection: Lyon College: http://www.lyon.edu/wolfcollection/index.htm The Alan Lomax Archive: http://www.lomaxarchive.com/index.html (note: I am having trouble using this site, but it may be my browser, they recommend IE 5 or highter) The Field Recorders' Collective: http://www.fieldrecorder.com/ Anthology of American Folk Music: http://towerofbabel.com/sections/music/troubadours/anthology/ The Child Ballads: http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/eng/child/chtitle.htm Folk Music of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and America: http://www.contemplator.com/folk.html If you have any sites that you find usefull or informative, add them to the list here. Brad

Ok- I am reviving this thread to add a couple of links that I recently ran across. For an excellent definition of Old Time Music (OTM), as well as a list of some CDs that help define the genre, check out the Mike Seeger site: http://mikeseeger.info/index.html The clips are worth it to get a brief glimpse of his mastery of banjo, fiddle, autoharp, jaw harp, and quills (or pan pipes). While following things through this site, I ran across an interesting autoharp page: http://www.calautoharp.com This is a site basically devoted to the annual Mendota Autoharp Gathering. Interesting to me because I was born and raised near that town, and because one of the premier instructor/performers (Evo Bluestein) played in the same string band as my brother in the old-time stringband "The Round Town Boys". Also of interest to Central San Juaquin Valley pickers, is the site for the Fresno Folklore Society: http://home.pacbell.net/ckjohns/ Also, check out the streaming audio on: http://sugarinthegourd.com/ Well, thats all for now, girls and boys! Brad

Thanks for the links! I'm always interested in researching new links related to old songs and music. You must be familiar with The Mudcat Cafe http://www.mudcat.org This site has an archive of folksongs that is huge and a forum of active members with on going and archived text discussions on musical subjects of every conceivable description. The depth of knowledge and passion displayed by the members there has astounded me. It's really quite an amazing community and one that everyone with any interest in folk music should be familiar with.
