Dean-
Check with Luthiers Mercantile, Steward McDonald, or some of the other suppliers, there is an electrostatic clear pick guard out there that you can put on your guitar without glue or screws.

Or, put it in your lap and play with fingerpicks and a thumb pick, like the original Dobro's were intended.
(I lost a chance at a free Dobro when the night before I was to go up and get it at my buddies G'parents' place, the spa burned to the ground. (The long story is in an old thread here somewhere.))

:thumbs2: Keep on pickin'
Brad

Thanks for the links Brad! I found lots of pick guard material, but not the electrostatic, interesting idea though! Might check with one of our favorite music stores, where they do a lot of guitar work and repair. After checking out the links, I found the correct "finger rest" pick guard that is supposed to go on arch-top guitars...but I'm not sure if I want to go that far...it's so comfortable the way it is, I would think something like that would get in the way. It's not too big a deal though, I'm not a perfectionist, and would rather beat it up than look at it:cool:

Kind of crude and hastely done...but this weekend I got some time to record something with the Ibanez. It's recorded open air acoustically, so it's the true blue sound of the guitar. I wrote some off the cuff lyrics (Tim will like em, since it's Sunday I put some Jesus stuff in there:cool:) and just sat down and jammed my butt off. Total time invested in the song is about 2 hours, so don't expect much, and I left it pretty raw instead of a lot of thought and do-overs.

Here's the song: I've Got a Problem

Brad..man, thats' too bad about the Dobro! The more I play, and the more I listen to music...I'm really loving the early 1900's reso/dobro type blues. I'm still fighting the urge to part with more than a grand for the National I want. For the last year there was no way I would put that kind of money into this "hobby"...but I'm realizing that this is not a "hobby" it is an obsession/therapy/addiction/recovery all tied in together. :)

Hey Dean

Just a killer good sound from that axe. :guitar1:The style you were playing I think I heard that last week at different times. Definitely up tempo bluesy.:sing: Great lyrics! Yes I do appreciate the References to Jesus, but I don't think he will help you get off of your butt to get your chores done. You should start a new post about this song, instead of burying it in this one. I predict it will get a few plays and for a long time too. Good job!:clap::clap:

Tim

Everybody getting new guitars , cept poor old me , so stopped in my local pawn shop and came out with this strange beast. Cimar ? Says made in Japan by Ibanez . I figure it 's early 80's or older . In really good shape though . It might have had original strings on it because I had to drill out the holes to get the ball end through the body when I re-strung it . Very loud and bright , I guess it's laminated top ? Seems these were popular in austrlia and europe ? Might stay with me or move on , would be a good camper , could drown out everyone else ?

That's a good looking guitar! Just buy the extra effort on nicely shaping the head and bridge tells me it's not quite a stamped out Japanese cheapo. If it's really booming, it might not be plywood...look at the edge of the soundhole, it's usually pretty easy to tell if it's laminated or not. I also really like the shape of the pickguard, very stylin! Nice find!
