Hi all, six-strings friends!

My first steps are: to find a tune (obviously!), to find a guitar tuning for it, then to add some kind of bass line (counterpoint, arpeggios, or just the root of the chords).
I think this is the most common way to go but...and now?

How do you add some kind of intro and outro, variations and so on? It seems more easy, for example, to change octave in other instruments like piano, harp or when you're playin' just the melody...the same thing when there's a modulation...
But on our guitars, where are the basses?! :?

This is one of my main problems, sometimes I play harmonics, a scale in harp-style...but there isn't many rabbits in my hat! How can I came out from the same "ABA" structure?

Thanks for reading...and for tips.

Cheers.

AB

AB,

Your picking sounds really good. Are those your own arrangements that you recorded for ezFolk? If so, you certainly don't need any help from me. My arrangements tend to be kind of 'ez' if you know what I mean (that's how the website got its name).

If you can persuade John Sheehan to get on here and share some of his techniques, then we all might learn something. He's absolutely amazing on fingerpicking guitar as well as clawhammer banjo. Anybody who hasn't heard him should check him out...

Hi Richard, thank you very much!
:)

Absoluely, they're an ezFolk exclusive!!!

Seriously...I've made many arrangements in the past years so I thought it's time to record everything a little better (obviously not at pro level!) and ezFolk is a very good place to upload them.
Hey, some people listen to me, here! :)
'Till now, I wrote only one arrangement just for ezFolk (for the Christmas Radio!), Silent Night, the last I've made.

If so, you certainly don't need any help from me. My arrangements tend to be kind of 'ez' if you know what I mean (that's how the website got its name).

Just different, not ez! ;)

...and very good! :thumbs1:

You're right, John is a wizard but I was talkin' about us mortals! I hope one day he'll come here to help us, if I'm not wrong, he's a teacher, too.

Maybe there's no easy way to go for fingerpickers, just practice. Ok, ok, back to guitar!

:guitar1:
...ehm...time to sleep!

Happy picking!

AB... John Sheehan has provided some of his tab arrangements on ezFolk and I've posted them in the tab sections. His eight tabs are marked as "new" on the master song list...

http://www.ezfolk.com/Songs/songs.html

They're mostly just beginner arrangements except for Land Rush, but it'll give you an idea. If you want to share some of your arrangements I'd be glad to post them as well. Let me know.

:hat:

Hmmm.....I often play the melody line on the bass strings with the thumb and then will reverse it and play the melody on the high strings and drone with the thumb. It's all still the alternating finger thing...don't know if this is what you mean?

I play only by ear and from memory (often faulty!) and the tune is in my head and I just find the notes on the fingerboard and then find complimentary notes to go along. It may be hard to explain. If playing melody on the low strings, the index finger is usually just brushing the high strings. Playing DADGAD or open G helps, even open C. I prefer DADGAD though.
