Hi all -
I'm looking to buy a back up guitar that sounds good and is reasonably priced. A guy at my local music store is raving about Garrison Guitars. I played one and it sounds pretty nifty. Now I just want to do some homework.

Anyone have any experience with a Garrison Guitar? Pros and Cons?

Thanks - Amy DK

Amy-

You might check out http://www.acousticguitar.com and see if they have any reviews of the Garrison. I know they are advertised in the mag (back when I was a subscriber). As I recall, they seem to be a decent axe.

My buddy has a G50 (?) top of the line Garrison with the p/u . Nice guitar , very rugged from what they say about the construction using non wood bracing . Made in Newfoundland . But there is not a lot of difference between the top of the line and the lesser models , so if the sound grabs you go for the cheaper one as opposed to the higher models . My buddy has his for sale actually , since he got a custom folk size guitar he doesn't touch the Garrison , not his style anymore . It sounded good plugged in for sure and pretty good unplugged .

BTW , he's on EZ as  Ben , I don't think he's on the forums but send him mail through his page and he will fill you in on his thoughts I'm sure .

cheers

The basic Garrison model (G-20, I think) is a beauty. Comes with it's own hard case too, apparently!

Dan :)

Finally broke down and bought one! I got the G-20 CE. First time I've ever had a guitar with a pick-up. Not sure what to do with it at home, but when I play out, it might come in handy from time to time.

Beautiful looking guitar and has a very nice tone. Not quite up there with the Taylor, but that's not what I was looking for. Sooner or later I'll have time to start recording again and I'll get something up using the Garrison. It really does stand up to many of the other higher priced guitars I've played.

Sounds like a top choice! That's the cut-away model, isn't it?

It will be a very different sound - the cedar top Garrison models are very resonant, and use some nice tonewoods. I would say it will make a lovely contrast to the Taylor if you do some of your delightful folky twin guitar overdubs!

Dan :)
