Hey everyone, im new to the forums, and just wanted to say whats up first and foremost. Anyways im a beginner in guitar, and im looking for some artists to listen to and mimic along with the song. My dad suggested Cat stevens because he's not to hard, and yet is not too easy. I actually started listening to some of his stuff and have to say Cat really is good, and in way inspires me to play. I just bought his new cd "gold" and its exactly what im looking for. If anyone else knows anything else bout cat or would offer up some advice that would be great. Later

One of my favorite guys to jam with is Bob Segar. He's real good at making easy music sound good.

If you are into blues at all, just about any "Best of the blues" type collections are great to jam with and pick up licks from.

Hey, welcome to ezFolk!:)

Hi. Have a listen to John Sheehan on ezfolk. One of the best guitarists here.

Hi Tunepeg,

When I first started playing over 30 years ago Cat Stevens was one of my favorite artists and I learned a bunch of his music back then. Those are still great songs. You can find a lot of chords and tabs for his music at Chordie on the following page...

http://www.chordie.com/song.php/songartist/Cat%2BStevens/index.html

As you probably know, he changed his name to Yusuf Islam a long time ago. Here's a link to what I think is now his official website...

Good luck with the guitar!

:) Welcome to ezfolk. Just learning guitar, eh. It's a great instrument. You might try some of The Beatles stuff. I always found it fairly easy. Least I did when I first started.

I'm not sure what kind of music you like - but here are some albums that I learned a bunch of songs from when I was just learning:

Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown

Gordon Lightfoot - Summertime Dream

Bob Dylan - The Times They are a'Changin

Neil Young - Harvest

Cat Stevens is a great choice too!

Have fun!

Scott

For learning songs, I would recommend recordings of The Kingston Trio, the group that made folk music accessible to everyone.  Their CDs are still widely available, spanning an incredible span of songs and styles.  One year during their heyday (1960), they alone accounted for 20% of Capitol Records' annual sales.   Guitar and banjo companies benefited greatly as everyday people took up musical instruments to play their music.  Although the Kingston Trio were not official endorsers, their Martin guitars and Vega (once owned by Martin) banjos were displayed on nearly all of their record album covers.  Martin Guitar had to build a new factory just to keep up with the demand for their instruments.
