Below is a link to a series of some 1st take improvs I have been working on recently. The approach is obviously not to create produced sound but to capture the unspoiled 1st time inspiration in during the creation of these songs. I really like Bob Dylan's and Paul McCartney's theory in this approach where you really capture the inspiration and unique character of a song in the overall sound. They are not perfection by any means but often I feel you lose the overall spirit and feeling when a song is over rehearsed or over produced. This link is to the "improv" album on my page: http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?mode=song_hifi&band_id=804&song_id=Improvs+-+1st+time+recordings It would be neat to start a forum here on how people go about creating/writing music. Your contributions are welcome.

lovely guitar work on the Slinky track Holley. James Connolly started an improvization thread on ezfolk a while back. My favouite musical time is sitting round in the kitchen playing with friends. After a while it gets to where we start searching for stray notes. It can take a few false tracks to get on the trail, but once heard, we go after it. In fact it's dawn now so I must get my head down, but a bit of ezimprovization never goes amiss. Nice playing on all the tunes Holley. All of them have a unique flavor to them. As for improvosation, I use it for my rock stuff all the time. Especially for the lead solos. If you can call the writing process as practicing a song, then I guess I do practice the rhythm parts. I've been writing so many of these kinds of songs lately that I record a song I've written and then immediately begin work on the next song. So really don't have time to practice them. I really don't do it on acoustic though. I like to have them down pretty good before recording.
