I'd like to learn music theory. Is there a good web-site  for this?

Just a sample of online info.  Try GOOGLE  advanced search with the phrase: "Music theory online.

1 - 10 of about 1,300,000 for Music, theory, online.

edit: I "killed" the hyperlinks.

I know you asked for web sites, but I think one needs a teacher to really make the theory come alive in a practical, applicable way.

I see in another thread you're going to learn piano to learn theory. No better way, in my opinion. Thinking in terms of notes on the keyboard will unravel all of the theory. I see intervals in terms of where they go on the keyboard. Give me a note and ask for its third, fourth, fifth, sixth, etc., and I can answer pretty quickly because I see a keyboard in my head.

There is an infinity of music theory sources online.  I would recommend you start by googling major scale.  It all revolves around the major scale.

memorize this

whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, whole step, half step.

you're on your way.

Thank you for responding.  I played the violin for 6 years , at the primari school. So I'm familiar with the basic things. I'd like to learn which chord where is suitable, and I'd like to learn how to  make part-songs from  songs. I  have found a good teacher for this. She is a retired choir-master and piano-music theory teacher.  And she teaches only for $10  (60 min), which means that teaching is her hobby :). (Usually, 60 min music class, in  Hungary, costs $20-$30 if the teacher is proffesional).
