I'm interested in learning to play the guitar and want to know what the best guitar for a beginner is.  I started to learn how to play a couple years back but I had recently had surgery on my middle left finger and had to stop.  The very tip of my finger got cut off resulting in a fat finger tip.  I've been told that the strings of some guitars are farther apart which I believe would make it easier for my fat finger.

Also, I have a very limited budget and do not wish to spend very much.  I like a wide variety of music ranging from country to alternative rock.  I would like to know which guitar I should choose.  Thank You.

Seagull and Art & Lutherie are owned by Godin Guitar of Canada.  They make reasonably priced, excellent-sounding guitars made from huge cedar and spruce logs 6 feet wide (centuries old) with solid wood tops.  I own 3 Seagulls myself.

If you're looking for an acoustic guitar with a bit wider neck width (standard width is 1-11/16"), check out Art & Lutherie, which sell guitars in the $250-$300 range.  Since you play rock and country, you'll probably want a spruce top dreadnought sized guitar.  When you invest in a solid top guitar, it sounds better and better the more you play it.  Here's one that has a solid spruce top and a 1-3/4" neck width for about $279:
