Richard -

I have been looking at the new format in the Artist section and have the following comments (not complaints, since my requirements are so unique and I'm so picky):

1. When I sign in from the Home page, the only indication that I have succeeded is that there is a "Control Panel" button in the header, which takes me to my control panel page. I am therefore unable to access the site as a visitor might, which leads to the first problem.

1a. The menu across the top of the page is very confusing. It is the most obvious menu but is tied to the home page, not the artist page, so, if I click on "songs," for instance, I am taken to the home page of everybody's songs.
The Artist menu is lower down on the page and very inconspicuous compared to the top menu.
This may not be a problem, but since I can't enter as a visitor, I don't know if the top menu disappears or not.

2. The music (songs) page has no option for albums. As you know, I rely heavily on albums as a multi-instrumentalist and on the TOTMC page, albums are a must since the same tunes get played month after month (I fixed that by going back to the "Media" theme there.

3. Related to the music (songs) page, is the radio station section. I can find no way to select one of my stations there - it appears (I haven't listened long enough) that the station starts at the first in order then will cycle through the other stations. Apart from selecting a different order of stations from the control panel, I don't see how a visitor has any choice over what station to listen to.

4. Photos  do not have titles in the thumbnails, and once one is selected for viewing, any "details" that were entered describing the picture do not appear, although there appears to be plenty of room for a "detail" or "description" to the right of the photo.

I'm sure I will find other problems as I work with the pages more, and I'll add updates.

Oh, the ordering of songs is still extremely time consuming and apt to bring on repetitive stress problems, especially on my TOTMC page with over 300 tunes which have to be reordered from bottom to top each month as I add an evenings tunes.

But, it does look nice.

Thanks for the input Brad. I didn't want to leave anything out so I quoted you below and left comments after each of yours...

Richard said: You can access the site as a visitor... just log out first.

1a. The menu across the top of the page is very confusing. It is the most obvious menu but is tied to the home page, not the artist page, so, if I click on "songs," for instance, I am taken to the home page of everybody's songs.

Richard said: There are actually 3 levels of menus. The one at the VERY TOP of the page is the one I added that is seen throughout most of ezFolk that enables people to access other areas (forums, tabs, store, etc.). The menu you're referring to as the one at the top of the page is actually the 2nd one down, and I know that's even more confusing but that's the way it's set up. I was confused by that myself right at first but after using the site a couple of minutes I got what was going on and realized that menu is for the overall MP3 section and the one below the artist photo is the one for the artist. A couple of times hitting the wrong button and most people should figure that one out.

2. The music (songs) page has no option for albums. As you know, I rely heavily on albums as a multi-instrumentalist and on the TOTMC page, albums are a must since the same tunes get played month after month (I fixed that by going back to the "Media" theme there.
I wish the albums were included there too, but (I think I've mentioned this before) there are hundreds of different options in Jamroom and as these skins and themes are designed the designer (not me) includes and/or omits features that they personally feel are important or not to them, and that's most likely what albums were omitted. It could be that it would be better for you to use something like the MediaPro theme in that case. That's why the other themes are still available, since each has different features.

Just as in the previous comment, it looks like the stations were omitted for the most part both from the theme and skin.

4. Photos  do not have titles in the thumbnails, and once one is selected for viewing, any "details" that were entered describing the picture do not appear, although there appears to be plenty of room for a "detail" or "description" to the right of the photo.
Okay, that's another difference from some of the other themes. Once again, MediaPro might be a better option to use for you.

Richard said: I think the ordering of songs problem is more a problem of having too many songs, no matter what theme you're using. Once you're dealing with more than 40 or 50 songs I think that becomes a problem. I'm okay with people having as many songs as they want and some artists have several hundred songs. I think a better solution when you get that many songs is to maybe start building different artist pages for the same artist (it could even be done by breaking them up into "albums" or whatever). All you need is a different email address for each artist created, which shouldn't be too difficult since most people have multiple email addresses anyway. To sum it up, there will always be differences when we bring on these new skins and themes. If you remember the original ones we used a few years ago, you know that plenty of advancement has been made over the years and hopefully that trend will continue over the coming years. We've always had some growing pains and will probably continue to do so. If we would have stopped with the original design it would be an old-fashioned looking mess by now. It's at least a more modern mess now. Virtually anything can be done with changing templates. We can add anything and remove anything we want to. Problem is, everybody's needs and wants are different too so we're never going to make everybody happy. The other problem for me personally is that I don't have the time or the expertise to change all of these things myself so usually I have to pay somebody else to do it. That gets really expensive really quickly. I'll be willing to make any reasonable changes that somebody wants as long as they want to pay for it, so if anybody really wants something added on, I'll get a quote, you come up with the money, and we'll do it. Don't be surprised to pay $500-1000 for what seem to be a few simple changes though.

In the "Nova" format, If I attempt to enter the CALENDAR from either the Control Panel, or as a visitor (not signed in), people I am not associated with are listed.

I get this:

If I chose CALENDAR while signed in, and select DELETE or MODIFY, all of my original listings are there, but none, repeat, none of the oddballs who show on my site page "Concerts".

OOPS

Dusty... you're hitting the wrong button.

The "Concerts" button is for the overall website. Under your artist photo are the tabs for the different sections of your own site. Click on "Shows" for your listings.

Now I see it.  Any way to make the primary (artist) tabs the dominate ones.  Same problem with the last style.

The little box on the left with the info was overlooked by most visitors.

Thanks Richard.  I barely noticed that center line of tabs.

Hi Richard,

The other day, I was informed of this change by another artist here at EZ Folk when we bumped into each other in the real world. The difficulties I have with this new form is that I cannot easily sign in to access my control panel. I wait and wait to be whisked away to my sign in page but it never happens.

I kind of wish that this whole change wouldn't have happened just now. I sent a link to my music page to someone from the Wall Street Journal who was wanting to do an interview with me about my song, "Wall Street Bail Out Blues." I'm not sure if he was able to get there to listen to the rest of my songs, because now the page has changed it's address and position as part of my site in this new format. Yikes! I can't change it back because it won't allow me to log in.

Well, I just got off the phone with the guy from the WSJ. So, while it isn't so important for my site to be functional at this time, since we've already had our interview via the phone, the need to have a functional site up and running for any particular interest by those who might read the article that he's written is something that might be advantageous. It'll not only bring more interest to me and my site here but to everyone at EZ folk.

Thanks, Reg

Reggie -

After you log in, look to the right of the login box. The button there has changed to "Control Panel". Click on that and you will be taken to your control panel page. Then, find the "view your profile" link and it will take you to your page as others see it.

The drawback is that to return to the control panel, you have to use your browser's "back" button. At least, that is the only way I've found of getting back and forth between the pages.

Dusty... I'm not able to change the tabs but keep in mind you can change to one of the other themes if it works better for you.

Brad... I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. If you log in you can go to your control panel by clicking the control panel button, then while in the control panel you can click on "View Your Profile" to return to your page. It's not necessary to hit the Back button.

Reggie... Sorry about that problem. Feel free to change back to whatever theme you were using before if it works better for you. It just takes a couple of clicks. Congratulations on the Wall Street Journal story... let us know if they print it.

Hi, Richard.  I switched back to the MediaPro theme, because it works better for me, but there is no longer a link to 'control panel' on my page in that theme.

Yes, I can log in and use the control panel button to go my control panel. If I then use the "View Your Profile" to go look at my page, the control panel option is not there. This is on the TOTMC page, which is using the MediaPro theme, like Tony. The link is there on the Nova scheme (banjo brad page).

Incidentally, I've accidently changed my password to my banjo_brad page while attempting to access my TOTMC page. I cannot log in to my TOTMC page, it says I don't have a valid password or user name.

Okay... so you guys are both talking about the MediaPro theme? I don't think anything's changed in there, right? I mean, there's not a link that's missing that was in there when everybody was using that theme, and thinking back, seems like neither of you were using that theme before, were you??

Richard, I've been using MediaPro since it first arrived.  There used to be a navbar for the mp3 section: Home, Artists, Music, Videos, etc. which also included the link to the control panel.  That entire navbar is gone.  I assume you removed it because the links were all broken, but you inadvertently removed the control panel link as well.

I see what you're saying. I didn't really remove the navbar but I guess it was part of the overall MediaPro skin and when I changed the skin to Nova it removed the part of the MediaPro skin that was seen on the artist theme pages.

Yeah, you're right, Richard. I think I'm using the Sage theme in the TOTMC page, but as I can't reach that page now, I can't check.

Somehow I lost the password for TOTMC, and everytime I try to get a new one, it changes the password for banjo brad, but not TOTMC. I thought I had used the same password for both, but I may be mistaken. Is it possible for you to set up a password for totmc and email it to me?

Brad, your TOTMC page is MediaPro.  Here's the address:

Brad... Log into your regular account (Fred Bradbury) and see if you've got access to TOTMC in there now. I tried to consolidate both of those together so you can manage them from that one account but I'm not sure if I did it right or not. If so, you should be able to access them both and not use separate logins.

Richard, I can only access the totmc page. I've sent an email before I saw this.

What happens is no matter what I want to go to, I always wind up at the totmc page. I tried looking up my regular account without being logged in, and I did land on the home page there, but when I clicked the "control panel" it took me to the control panel for TOTMC.

Lets work this out via PM or email, so we don't double post and get off on timing and really mess things up (which I'm prone to do)!

I was using whatever the "default" theme for the last major change was. I can't remember the name though. I don't really have time right now to go through and change all the pics, etc. so I'd like to roll back until my time clears up a bit.

What was the default theme before this last change?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just tried all of them until the one I recognized came up. :?

Thanks!
