Hey Richard,

I hate to sing this same ol' song but I'm finding bugs in my posts.

The first was that my apostrophes (sp?) in my song description posts are being convereted into strange font errors that I can't easily describe except that they get expanded into several characters of unknown origin.

The other thing that's happens is when I've tried to modify the picture file for a song that I posted the new picture doesn't appear. Only the old one shows up. But when you click on that picture the new picture shows up in a separate window and larger in size. I've tried clicking on REBUILD YOUR SITE as well as refresh your view. I've also tried re-uploading the image that I want to appear. None of these options works to make the new image appear.

I've made other changes, in my blog for example, that managed to appear, no problem. This glitch has happened to me in the past and I always found that by the time I posted to you about it the issue had magically resolved itself. I don't know if logging out of my edit site and into the forum and then re-logging back into my edit site had some effect or exactly what fixed the issue in the past. I suspected it might be the various skins that we were using in the past but I am a novice at such beta guessing.

Well, that all I've noticed so far with this new skin. I'll keep you apprised should any further bugs rear their annoying heads.

Sure enough! It magically fixed itself again. By the time I posted the note to you and then went back to my site to check the image again the problem was fixed, by some friendly ghost in the machine no doubt.

Thanx friendly ghost!

I still have the font glitch in my posts that accompany my song posts or edits. My apostophe is being replaced by an "a" with a funny little hash mark above it, followed by a fancy letter "C" that looks like an E but rounded and that's followed by the symbol for Trade Mark, a small "TM". It a very strange glitch that I've seem somewhere else before other than here but I can't recall where.

I'll leave you sharper minds to wrestle with this one. At the sound of the bell come out swinging.

Hey, I just checked again and it only seems to appear in the lyrics area of my song posts.

It also seems to be affecting my quotation marks and altering them as well.

Hey Reggie,

About the graphics not changing, I think the problem is in the system cache, which only updates about every 30 minutes so there is less stress on the system, so if you change a graphic the change might not show up for 30 minutes.

Regarding the special characters showing up weird, this most often happens when you copy and paste from another website or from something other than a plain text editor. If you're copying and pasting you should first paste the text into a text editor such as Wordpad and replace any special characters such as directional quotation marks with just a plain old "  -- and that should solve the problem.

Hope that helps!

Hey Richard,

Thanks for the explanation of why the picture uploads lag and the tip concerning my text issue. I was copying and pasting from my Microsoft Word program using Arial as a font and a .doc file. I also tried Notepad another more simple text editor that comes with XP. I checked several other standard font faces including the one you use here Veranda, Times New Roman, Courier New, Tahoma and so far have not found one that doesn't slant their marks. Can you offer me any suggestions as to which one will have the desired characteristics to mesh, flow and behave properly with your program?

Many thanks, Reg

Reggie,

Just looking at your latest entry it seems like it's showing up normally now. You don't want to really mess with changing fonts and pasting them into the text box.

You should enter just basic ASCII characters -- not extended ASCII characters which sometimes your word processor will do for you.

Look at character 34 on this page...

http://www.petefreitag.com/cheatsheets/ascii-codes/

That's what the system understands. Look at characters 147 and 148 on that same page. Those extended ASCII characters are the ones that aren't showing up correctly. Using Notepad, if you type " you get character 34, but if you just copy it from Word it uses the 147 and 148 characters. You need to delete them and replace them with 34. It sounds more complicated than it really is. It's just stuff like apostrophes, quotation marks, and dashes where you need to delete the extended characters and replace them with standard characters.

Hi Richard,

Here's a funny bug. I tried to post a new topic in the Promote Your Music forum. I wanted to tell folks about my song "These Old Shoes" winning the #1 spot in an April contest at OurStage. But when I hit the new topic button I was taken to a page that said I was not logged in. Well, I knew better but I couldn't get the site to recognize me. I came here to see if I could simply hit a reply button and get transferred to the text box and was. So, I'm sending this note to you via this forum and wondering if you've noticed this bug.

Many thanks, Reg

Thanks too for the recent spotlight in the Blues category. When it rains it pours.

Hey Reggie,

I haven't heard of that happening before. Are you still not able to post a new topic? Is it just that one forum or all of these forums?

Could have been just a temporary glitch or possibly the browser your using, or if it's a widespread problem and people are unable to post new topics they can contact me or post as a reply like you did.

Here's something else weird. After I posted the reply and logged out I went to look and see my reply and it wasn't there. As a matter of fact, none of the three replies I had posted in several forums were visible when I went to check them after I posted them and then logged out. It was as if I had never posted anything.

But I can now see this one and again, my ability to reply is functional. Perhaps it's just a lag time matter. Spooky!

Well, I just checked and everything seems hunkydory now. Spooks! Ghosts! Haunted forum I suspect. Hey, now that I think about it, that couyld be a great hook to get folks to check out the site. Advertise it as the only haunted forum on the web. With the popularity of all those ghosts shows on the TV there are probably millions that would come by to see if they could catch site of a ethereal cyber spook. ;o)
