Richard-

I don't know if this is a real bug or not, but to me it is.

I recently changed to the "Flashback" theme because I have put some tunes & tabs up for digital sales.

While looking around in the songs area, I discovered that if I select the "Albums" button and attempt to play any of the tunes on my page, I get an "Undefined" notice in the player. The tune plays fine as long as I am under the "song" listing.

I believe it may have something to do with the player, because in the other two themes, the selected tune is automatically started in my iTunes player, not on the built-in player of the "Flashback" theme.

Any thoughts? As you know, I really need that "Albums" option.

Brad

Hi Brad,

This isn't an answer to your question. I'm curious, too, as I'd like to put some tracks and CDs up for sale too. I've done one, but have to wait until we change Internet Providers in a couple of days so I can get more and quicker bandwidth to upload some more songs (long story).

Now, why can't we customise that "Flashback" theme to make it look better? I can't understand why the other two themes can be customised, but not this one. I find it a dark and gloomy theme. And, why can't the other two themes have just as good options for selling stuff? You can sell stuff with those themes, but the selling page is kind of hidden and not very prominent.

Boy, what a bitch that Kath is, eh? She goes away for three years, then comes back on this forum and has the nerve to complain about stuff. Huh! :D

Well, I love this site and really appreciate the huge amount of work Richard puts in on it. I'd just like to see it even better.

Cheers, Kath:sing:

Kath-

Actually, I like the darker schemes, myself. I have a real hard time trying to read stuff on a white screen. Weird, because I have always loved to read, and read books by the gross, but on a white monitor, I lose my place, my eyes lose focus, and get real dry and tired.

When I first started on computers, it was all on green-bar paper, then it went to green type on a grey screen. Then Amber (Orange) on grey. Then, when color monitors came out, I modified all my programs to write yellow on a blue background, and that was the best I have found for computers. But, nobody else seems to want to go that way, they'd rather have that glaring white screen drying out eyeballs and heating up the rooms!

Actually, I found that the other themes (at least the light one) has an easier to find digital sell point - it is on the main menu, all you have to do is point people towards your "Vault." Here, they have to go to the "Store" then to the "Digital Download" inside the store, one extra step to get where you want them.

If I was younger and had the energy and desire to get into internet programming, I'd try to write one of these things the way it should operate. (When I had my own store, I gave up finding a decent sales/inventory/billing program and wrote my own.)

Actually, Brad, the actual main forum pages (these ones we're writing in) under this theme I've got it on is just beautiful. The very back background is a rich, deep royally type of blue. Then the messages alternate between a pale blue and a slightly darker blue background with black print. The buttons are lovely 3D emerald green shades with dark blue printing, the border and top bar of the main box is a rich leaf green shading to emerald. The links are in tasteful blue and green.

It's just a pleasure to read the forums. Then there's the neat avatars that people use - like a squirrell in overalls?? Cute.

Cheers, Kath:sing:

Brad...

I see what you mean about the error message. I just put in a bug report about it and it looks like it might be a pretty easy fix so most likely that will be corrected in the next script update not too long from now.

Kath...

Somebody on the JR board complained about Flashback not being more customizable and the author said he'd try to fix that on a future update so it could be coming before long.

Things are always changing and if you compare any of the different themes we are using now with the old ones from a year or two ago the difference in the functionality is amazing. I'm sure in another year or two the current ones will be outdated as well and there will be a lot of new stuff to play around with. Since the themes are designed by different people at different stages there are some features that might or might not be included or that might work differently in different themes. The best thing to do is try them all out and see what works best for you.

Thanks, Richard -

I noticed something else last night while trying to link stuff to my website: the link is copied as a java ap type line and I have to edit the link back to the old straight "audio/play.php?mode. . etc." syntax.

Maybe I'm not finding the correct spot to copy the link from? I am using the LoFi play button on the music page.

Brad... The problem with the albums in Flashback is now fixed. I noticed that since then you have switched back to Sage, and I'm not sure how that works, but if you want to try it in Flashback again it shoudl work for you.

Richard-

Thanks for letting me know.

I went back to the "Flashback" theme and discovered that I had failed to advise you that when you attempt to play a LoFi song there, it plays too fast. This happens with any tune I have uploaded, even a couple that I uploaded under the "Flashback" theme.

So, I'm back to the "Sage," which at least loads any tune into iTunes to play and doesn't use the javaplayers.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the LoFi situation with the Flash player. That's something that I don't think will ever change because of the way Flash handles audio, and with less people using LoFi all the time it seems to have become less of an issue.

" and with less people using LoFi all the time it seems to have become less of an issue. "

I am constantly amazed at the number of people on some of the boards I'm on who are still on dial-up. Guess it must have something to do with the type of music we're interested in. A lot of them are still pretty far away from the Central Office and don't have the chance to get on DSL.
