I thought that I would see the listing for other EZfolk for Illinois, so first I used the map-based form, grabbed the url for someone in Kansas, modified the URL and submitted it and got about 4pages of artists. Cool, but I was not included.

I then went to my ezfolk site and and clicked on the "North America:USA:Illinois (IL)" link and I got myself, and one other person.

Here are the two links:
from my page (which only returns two people)
http://ezfolk.com/audio/index.php?t=browse_artist&search_area=band_location&search_string=AMERICA+NORTH%3A+USA%3A+Illinois+%28IL%29

and from other pages (which returns several pages of people, but not the two above):

http://ezfolk.com/audio/index.php?t=browse_artist&search_area=band_location&search_string=AMERICA+NORTH%3A+USA%3AIllinois+%28IL%29

There is some difference there, but I can't see it.

I get everyone if I edit the url so that the search string is ONLY "Illinois"

http://ezfolk.com/audio/index.php?t=browse_artist&search_area=band_location&search_string=Illinois

so that's what I'll use as a link from our local folklore society site, but I thought it was an odd difference. One thing, I had updated my profile yesterday when I noticed that I was listed as from Algeria, although I know that when I originally set myself up I had done the Illinois correctly.

Here's the difference... at the end of both of those urls is the bits below. You'll notice that the first one has a + sign between %3A and Illinois and the second one doesn't.
 +USA%3A+Illinois+%28IL%29

+USA%3AIllinois+%28IL%29

What happened is that the extra "+" sign that HH mentioned was added into the script as a correction in a fairly recent update of the script.

This corrected the script but unless an artist goes in and changes their location (under "Modify Artist") the old locations will stay the same because they still don't contain that additional "+" sign.

Erich, the reason you saw your location as "Africa: Algeria" is that it is alphabetically the first thing listed under location. When a user clicks on "Modify Artist" and they have the old listing (without the plus sign) it defaults to the top of the list because the new listing is different (the system doesn't find the old string without the plus sign. All it takes to correct the problem is to choose the right location and save it, then you're listed correctly.

The reason only a couple of people from each state (or other location) are listed correctly is that only a handful of people have taken the time to change it. It would take me forever to go into over 2500 profiles and change them so they'll have to be changed by each individual user.
