Hmm... I don't have notation for dotarebushi (sorry), but man, that really reminds me of Jinkubushi! (which I have notation for) You probably already know that Jinkubushi though.

Yah, I have that. Thanks anyway.  What songs are you working on right now?

Well, I'm currently working up my tournament Aiya Bushi (minor version) and Jonkara bushi. Every so often though, to keep the songs fresh, I run through Kuroishi yosare, ringobushi, yasaburobushi, akita nikata bushi, ajigasawa jinku, tsugaru jinku bushi, tsugaru jonkara kyu bushi and now, san sagari.

I was planning on learning one godai tsugaru piece per month. But after I completed San Sagari. . . oy. I wanted a little time to enjoy the accomplishment before starting another. Needless to say, two months has gone by, and I've yet to start on the next piece, Ohara bushi.

What about you? What pieces are working on?

Nice idea about learning a song a month.  i been working on "perfecting"  Tsugaru Jinku, Aiya Bushi(i am not sure which version i want to incorporate), Ringo Bushi, Tosa no Sunayama, Ajigasawa Jinku, Roku Dan, and as of this week Kase no Yakko Odori.

After i master those I will graduate to the Akita Nikata Bushi, Jyonkara Bushi, and San Sagari class, as I have to work on my hajiki.  I have to strengthen my fingers for the 16 position hajiki like in Jyonkara and Nikata Bushi.

Aiya in minor is so much sadder right, but very pretty.

Sweet. Man, I keep trying to learn Tosa no Sunayama, but I always end up forgetting it for some reason. Kase no Yakko Odori is great. Are you doing the swingy time-signature version or the "hard driving" time-signature version, if you know what I mean.

If you want to get some solid hajiki practice, you should try kita no hibiki. That one's got tons of solid hajiki parts (granted, it's not traditional, but still,)

-Aiya in minor is so much sadder right, but very pretty.
Yeah. Grant says that absolutely nobody does the minor version at the kanagi tournament. Not quite sure why, as apparently being "different" is encouraged at that tourny

No problem! (actually, somebody else recorded it and I 'tubed it, but I'll take the credit anyway :-P) Man, wish I could get a shirt like that!

Notice he doesn't really do that aiya "timing." It's kinda nice like that anyway.

yeah, he has a different timing, but it does sound pretty nice.

Do you know what school he is from? Yes, different is great if you can pull it off eh.

I wouldn't say I have all those songs down perfectly yet. I would say about 80% and then i do my own improv lol.

No, I have no idea what school he's from. I only know that him and Pierre (I must say, I haven't heard of many nihonjin named Pierre! 笑) are a duo called Seshami Street - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFajdpkjtAM

Ah, well 80% is probably enough. As they say (or as Kevin told me), “Even a monkey can imitate. Don’t copy others, play your own Shamisen!” That's the spirit of tsugarujamisen, I guess. Keeping to the form but also putting your own spirit into the piece.

Yeah, that's what im saying.  Sometimes mistakes make the best music.

On another note, i would love to go to a shami shop and test a few bachi, koma, and shamisens out before i buy them.  That is definitely the the downside of being a shami player from the states.

I havn't been able to find any Shamisen notations, is there a special site?, And as for you tube, you may have already seen it but type in Tokyo ghetto shamisen, looks like it could be an interesting doco, and there's some Tuvan throught singing for you as well Fiddlefella on the same channel, singing in Wales no less, Go the mighty leek.

I haven't been able to find a site for notation recently. There was quite a bit on benben.jp a while ago, but I think it was taken down. Go figure.

Soooooo, what's the latest on your book Fiddlefella, I've been popping in on your site on and off and no change yet. My search for Shamisen notation is looking positive just quietly. if you have the names of any music you want, let me know and I may be able to help, maybe.

Ah! Excellent question! Well, I'm still waiting for the final run-through copy to arrive (it should probably come today). After looking it over, it *will* be done. . . I think.:P

And the site's being worked on too. As I have no knowledge of web design 'n stuff, Luke, our resident pro,(and brother) is doing that. He said it's almost done, but we'll see. After he gets the site laid out, I'll start writing the creative content for it, which I hope to do this week or next.

I am pleased to say I think it will be all done before my estimated deadline of Nov.! :D

Fantastic, and my condolences that your family it seems has also been afflicted by the member who dabbles in the dark arts of interwebery I.T. Remember, it's not their choice, they are born like that. :) Be civil but keep your distance in case it does get proven that you can catch I.T.  Works for me. Ta ta for now.

Thanks! :-D Yeah. I'm quite tickled pink myself.

I ordered about 50 copies. By the time they get here, the site should be ready. . . I hope(!)
