Maybe this sort of covered in back-posts...but I'll ask anyway.

For years I've played a 120 bass accordian. I only play by ear... just pick it every-so-often and play a polka or waltz. I can hit it pretty decent .

I'd like to try a cajun accordian . I know they are mainly in "C"  ...and seems they are more like a harmonica. Meaning they give a different note on the push that they give on the pull of the bellows.

So I have two questions mainly...hohner sells one in the key of C for about $280.

Think this is an OK instrument ? or do you have to spend a little more. I don't want to spend a ton...but at the same time...I'm a little older and want to get something good that will last. I've learned from playing guitar not to buy cheap stuff. It actually makes it harder to play

Second...maybe this thing will just confuse me. Seems like it might be like a playing a whole different instrument? I'm afraid it might be SO different it might just be frustrating .

Any thoughts?

Mike I can give you a few pointers on the accordions,   I have owned the Honer Cajun accordion and it is OK to some extent,  But really lite weight and I had a hard time holding on to it because  you can only use one strap on it, so you have to sit down to hold on to it.

Since you have been playing a regular accordion, the push pull thing might confuse you and you may be able to over come that also,  but I play a Diatonic accordion and tried going the other way and give up on the regular accordion.

You can buy a good accordion from some one down in cajun country, but you would be looking at $1000. or more

Another thing to consider would be a 2 or 3 row button accordion and that way you can play any kind of music plus Cajun and you have choices of different keys,  mine can play in GCF Keys, Ipaid about $700. for my Weltmeister German Diatonic accordion .   Mine does not have the bass side to it that I wish it did. It is designed for Latino music, but works good for folk music and old time music.

E-Bay has 3 row china built accordion that sounds good for about $200. or less and they are fair and cheap, If they don't work out ,They sell good

Hope this has helped and good luck
