kinda late but just joined the form and saw your post. No reason whh it shouldnt work. You wouldnt need the volume control if you used your amp gain knob. you can also get a good mic element from an old cb mic. hopefully you will get a dynamic or crystal element. broken cb are worthless so a couple of dollars max. the mic is usually good. I use a cb mic and it sounds really good. I would think better than some of these mics being sold by do it yourselfers. You can take the element out of the case and do it as per the article or just put the proper plug on the end of the cable and either use the push to talk button or take it out you might also have room to put a small pot (volume control) in the mic head.
