What mic or pickup would you recommend for a harmonica?

Bob

I would go with the Shure Green Bullet or if you play live, you may want to upgrade to the Chrome Crystal Ball Mic over at the Best Li'l Harp House.  It's a little more, but has a tremendous sound and adds flash to your performance.

Depends on what you are trying to do.
The traditional rig for someone trying to play traditional Chicago blues would be a Green Bullet or Hohner Blues Blaster(made by Astatic) into a low powered tube amp.(I have a Fender Champ)
When I'm playing my harp in a rack, singing and playing my uke I use a Shure SM58 on a stand.
Many people love the Shaker Madcat. Read the reviews:

One local Blues singer/harmonica player gets great results with a cheap lapel mike from Radio Shack.
Experiment, find whats best for you.

You want inexpensive but gritty sound? Check out the Bottle o Blues mic. A bit funky, but gobs of tone, and for the price it's unbeatable.
