richard, you once told me about a new lee oskar harp -- is it the melody maker? i couldn't find them on elderly.com recently when i decided to upgrade and replace some harps. am i right remembering that they are played cross harp style in the natural key? (ie., emphasize the draw on an A harp for a song in key of A) uke jackson

That's right... if you want to play in the key of A you use an A Melody Maker. It's kind of like cross-harp but 2 notes are changed from the cross-harp key allowing you to play 2 full octaves. I really love it. It takes a week or two to get used to but it's worth it. If Elderly doesn't sell it you can get it from Musician's Friend for $24.99 (there's a direct link at the bottom of the page in the harmonica section of ezFolk). All of the harmonica tabs on ezFolk are for the Melody Maker, so check it out if you're interested (they're all free). Click on the following link for my tutorial that explains the difference between the Melody Maker and a regular diatonic harmonica... http://www.ezfolk.com/harp/intro/intro.html

Hey Uke...There's an alternative to a melody maker, and that's to play cross-harp style. Have you heard of it? If you take a C harp for instance, and play cross-harp style, you would be playing in the key of G. In other words, the key you play in would be five steps above the actual key of the harp. This style gives you a more bluesy sound and allows for more bending of the notes. Homer.

hi homer, yeah. i already play cross harp. the diff, as i understand it, is that you play cross harp style (ie., emphasize the draw, and bend notes) but these melody makers are set up to play that way in the same key, rather than playing a harp that's iv to the tonic. peace, uke jackson
