Years ago my dad had a fiddle. It was very loud and had a very sweet tone. It was a "Old Bull", thse words were carved in the back next to the neck joint. It got stolen at a fiddlers convention. The only thing I can find out about it, was that it was made in France. Does anyone here know what that fiddle would be worth in todays market? Or do you know where I could find out more info on it?

I suggest you try some of the on-line fiddle groups, like:

http://www.fiddlefork.com

or maybe you could check the mudcat site, I know they do a lot of banjo stuff, maybe they do fiddles too. Or google for some more. Most of these groups have members knowledgable in all areas of fiddle-da-dee :P , and are more than happy to give their opinions (sorta like this site  ).

Hope you can find what you need.

I would definitley get several opinions because fiddles can range from a $100 - several thousand if not more.

I can't tell you anything specifically about the worth of your Dad's fiddle, but I have an Old Bull fiddle as well. Mine also is very loud with a sweet tone (or does when someone who plays well gets hold of it - lol). I was under the impression that mine came from Germany, but I could be mistaken. It has no stamp or mark on the inside - just Old Bull on the back (like your Dad's). The man who refurbished it for me gave me an interesting history about the person "Ole Bull", for whom these fiddles were named. I'm not sure if they all even came from the same makers.

I know that I paid about $500 for mine, but it was in pretty bad shape and needed quite a bit of work.

I see that your initial question is quite old. I hope that you've found more information since then. If you have, I'd like to know more as well.
