Coyote - Info

Ok.. so it does need work.. but here is the 1st take in hopes I will get a better recording soon.. It has been over 28 years since I played the violin/fiddle well. after putting it down for so many years I since learned takes a lot more practice to get back into compared to the guitar... the fiddle is not quite like riding a bicycle.. arrgh!! take some patience and LOTS of practice to regain what I lost over the years...I wrote this unusual (guitar part) strange desert tune after my visit from Midland Texas quite a few years back.

Hey Holley,

That's a whole different sound. I didn't know you played the fiddle... Thanks for sharing! Sounds great!

Holley-

Very interesting piece! I can see the coyote trotting down the arroyo, tongue lolling out in the heat.
The fiddle gives the heat to the song, and the guitar does the trotting.

Very New Age/Othmar Liebert sound to it.

Now, get busy on some good OT fiddle tunes!

Brad you are too nice. Its still slightly painful for me to listen to but hopefully I will improve soon. I love the old fiddle tunes and look forward to learning. My background was classical when I was younger but I always wanted to learn how to play fiddle. Wish me luck! thanks for the encouraging words!

Are there any fiddle tunes in the Tab section?

Holley-

No, there aren't any in the tab section. I have found that tab is difficult for fiddle, too many versions which never work together. I might suggest a good instruction method book and CD:
"Old-Time Fiddle for the Complete Ignoramus" by Wayne Erbsen. Despite the title, it has a lot of good tunes in his tab (which works, along with the notation), and lots of tidbits of information. It has been my major tool recently. If you read music (having played classical violin), you should be able to get any of several books of fiddle tunes available. Check out FiddleFork forum for lots of advice.

Lets Go, Gal!

Hey Rich thanks for being brave enough to listen to it!! I apreciate the feed back though I never anticipated that this would be a popular tune. Just have fun writing to work on my playing abilities. :fiddle2:

When I saw 'coyote' I thought of the guys who help smuggle illegal aliens across the Mexican border.  Being from Texas, that's a big deal here.

When I listened to the music, it actually fit. This tune sounds like it could be part of a soundtrack on that subject.  Very moody.  I liked it.

Nothing to laugh about here in Tucson, either. Illegal entrants are a big problem all along the border states.

I agree with the 'jump the border' sound it has.  Neat!  If you're looking to expand the tune at all, try adding a slight delay effect to the fiddle.  That is, if you're going for that 'wide open space' atmosphere.  It'll also add a little more of a 'coyote's cry' to it.  On an album, this would be a good track to have between a couple of faster paced ones.

Nicely done! :)

Hey Fred,

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually tried doing a take with some special effects the same time I did this one but need to find a way to tone it down to sound more natural yet have that delay effect your talking about. I can get some  pretty cool electric effects off the pick-up and digital recorder with the fiddle.

I know what you mean, but there are times, and this recording is one of them, when the feel of the music comes through actually enhanced by our technical limitations. I love it.  Keep Her Lit! (This call comes out from a listener or musician at Irish sessions when a particularly good groove is hit.)

I replaced the recording with a slightly better one. Still need to work on the sound. It's a little off balance. The bowing technique is getting a little better but still need more practice.
