Tuning the Dulcijo

One of the most important (and sometimes the most difficult) things to do in playing any stringed instrument is getting it in tune. If it is not in tune it won’t really sound right. For various reasons stringed instruments constantly go out of tune, so you should always tune up before playing. Learning how the strings should sound takes a lot of practice, but don’t let that discourage you.

Electronic tuners can now be purchased very reasonably and should be considered an essential investment for the Dulcijo or any other stringed instrument. Any chromatic tuner should do the job nicely. I personally use the Korg CA-30 and it works great with any stringed instrument. You can find a chromatic tuner at your local music store or buy one through the link on this page.

If you don’t have an electronic tuner you can tune your Dulcijo by matching the pitch on the MIDI files below for each string. Be sure to listen to the MIDI first so you can hear the correct sound. Then tune the string.

The 1st string is a D note. Click on the musical note below to hear the correct pitch.

The 2nd string is an A note. Click on the music note below to hear the correct pitch.

tune-2

The 3rd string is also an A note, but it is an octave higher than the A note at the 2nd string. Click on the music note below to hear the correct pitch.
