Below are four blank measures of Dulcijo tablature. Each element is explained below the diagram.

blank-4a

Clef -- The G clef is seen at the beginning of the standard notation staff. For those who read music, it shows the position of the G note, from which the positions of the other notes is determined. This is not something you need to worry about if you’re just reading the tablature line.

Key Signature -- In standard notation, this signifies the key in which the song is written. All of the music for the Dulcijo will be written in the key of D, which has two sharps.

Time Signature -- This tells you how many beats are in each measure and the type of note that receives one beat.

Tuning - At the beginning of the first line of tablature is a tuning reference. All of our Dulcijo tabs will be in this tuning (A-A-D).

Strings -- Each horizontal line of tablature represents one of the three strings of the Dulcijo. Note that when you are holding the Dulcijo in playing position the 1st string is on the bottom, nearest to the floor.

Bar -- The bars divide the tablature as well as the standard musical staff into segments called measures.

Measure -- A measure is the space between two bars. In this example in 4/4 time, each measure consists of 4 beats.
