Biography
3 Days, 7 Lovers & The Philistine, is Jay's second CD. Attempting to focus on quality rather than quantity, it caresses 7 tracks, 6 original and one a rendition of Blind Lemon's 'One Kind Favor'. Its got no specific style, but a flow without the hustle. It was made in the few days of studio time that Jay could afford, with beautiful layers of instrumentation donated by Jay's talented friend, Peter Hicks. Released March 2008.
April 2007 marked the first public release by Australian folk singer-songwriter Jay Fraser, an album of songs entitled Losing Home. The songs have been recorded as Jay plays them and as he wrote them, bare bones and acoustic, rich with emotion and lyrical depth. The album embarks on a raw journey of losing home and in doing so finding it, in the places it can be lost or found, including in our heads & in our beds.
Jay has enjoyed both local & international attention for his unique and heartfelt songwriting. Locally, he received merits for his songwriting as a finalist in the esteemed Tasmanian Folk Federation Songwriting Contest of 2006 for 'Falsely Accused' & 'Man of Goodwill'. 'Falsely Accused' was also selected to feature on Neil Young's Living With War Songs Page.
International appreciation for Fraser's work stretches to homes and radio stations from New Orleans to Chattanooga to Paris to Pakistan to Belgium to Hong Kong to Switzerland to Western Australia to Indonesia to Brisbane to Pittsburgh and of course his beloved home, Tasmania.
Fraser hit the live scene with his energetic and passionate performances in mid 2005. In the brief amount of time since, his live performance resume has grown from acoustic singer-songwriter evenings to performing at international festivals hosted in his home state including the Tamar Valley Folk Festival, Taste of Tasmania and the Antarctic Mid-Winter Festival hosted on Hobart's waterfront.
In 2006 his passion led him far and wide to the Hollywood of country music, Nashville Tennessee. Whilst there he played several well received shows, including a spirited performance at the World famous Bluebird Cafe.
Now a regular performer on the Tasmanian original music scene, Jay has had the privilege of sharing the stage with touring Australian artists such as Edward Guglielmino (Brisbane), Dan Dinnen (Melbourne) & Chris Pickering (Brisbane). He has also had the honour of supporting internationally acclaimed folk artists such as Minna Raskinen (Finland) and the legendary Dick Gaughan (Scotland).
In mid 2007, he traveled to the UK for shows throughout England and Scotland including the Filey Folk Festival and Cottingham Springboard Festival.
