Floating Glass Balls

Floating Glass Balls Every now and then I am lucky enough to stumble upon a band or a musician that impresses me and these guys blew me away tonight. I have been on a much needed vacation after getting the hotels of Glacier closed. My family and I traveled to Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast for some good time together after a crazy summer. I ordered take out from "Bill's Tavern Brew House" on Wednesday night and as I was waiting for the food I noticed 2 CD's for sale behind the bar. Floating Glass Balls... hmm strange name. I asked about the band and got a short history but basicly the bartender told me that they have been playing there every Thursday longer than he had been alive.

I had to see what Floating Glass Balls was all about and made my way back to the tavern tonight to check them out. These guys are one of the tightest and most fun bluegrass (Beach Grass, as they call it) bands I have heard in a long time and you can check them out at http://www.floatingglassballs.com or you can now listen to them on Bear Grass Radio at http://www.beargrassradio.com
Old Dog Blues

I got together with two fantastic musicians, Mike Rihner and Danny McIntosh, last Thursday night in Studio 33 to do some work on my CD, Traditions, and we got VERY side tracked with a little blues jam. Old Dog Blues was written and recorded in about 6 beers. I hope you enjoy listening as much as we did recording it.

Blues Rags and Hollers - The Koerner, Ray and Glover Story

Blues Rags and Hollers - The Koerner, Ray and Glover Story

I have been a fan and influenced by these guys for a lot of years. This documentary film that was written and produced by the trios own Tony Glover. The film goes in depth into the lives and freindship of this blues trio whose recordings were a cornerstone of the 60s folk-blues revival.

If you have any interest in the powerful influence of performers like Son House and Leadbelly you should try to watch this. The music is of course as great as great gets. I had the good fortune of being able to see Ray and Glover several times over the years before Rays death. The quality of their music and playing blew me away every time.
