Biography
“A mellow-smart James Taylor vibe with the poetic soul of a Southernized Bob Dylan.”
Critics have long hailed Ricky Fitzpatrick as "the next James Taylor", with a voice that's "as smooth as moonshine". But fans of artists like John Mayer, Shawn Mullins and even Bob Dylan, John Prine and Tom Waits are also falling in love with what some are calling the next great singer/songwriters to hit the scene. Ricky’s latest CD “Not A Dark Day” is being described as “a new collection of life-theme songs for the sensitive, the romantics and the starry-eyed dreamers” and Myspace recently posted Ricky as one of the Top 40 Acoustic Artists and one of the Top 20 Folk artists in the US for the state of Georgia.
Recent appearances include performances at the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville, Richard's and other songwriter hangouts such as the Broken Spoke and Douglas Corner Café. Ricky also performs at the legendary Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA. From Eddie’s he was able to perform at the coveted Eddie's Attic Open Mic Shoot-out, before a sold-out, standing-room-only crowd. "The Shoot-out was no doubt, the high point of my performance career, to date. It's not about winning at that level...it's about saying you were there. And I'm honored to have been there."
He is also a local and area Star Search Male Vocalist, a finalist in the Colgate Country Music Showdown, a competitor on the popular Nashville Star television series and a vocal finalist in the Amateur Night at the Apollo where the capacity crowd listened in uncharacteristic silence as he presented an original ballad. After a thunderous applause, the Apollo capped the night’s events by inviting Ricky to give a live, televised performance at the world-famous Apollo Theatre in New York.
He is also the composer local favorites like "Highway 98", soon to be considered by the State of GA with a House Resolution to declare it as the official song for the Madison County corridor of GA Highway 98, a first for any road in the State of Georgia.
Most recently, Ricky has received critical acclaim for his charitable work, as he celebrates the launch of a brand new Charitable Organization, The Healing Power of Music. HPM, which has already become home to over 70 other affiliated artists and bands from all over the world, organizes and presents free, live music to patients in hospitals and care facilities. Ricky also currently organized and heads "The Power of a Song" compilation CD project that will join the collective talents of 15 world-class musicians from a wide array of genres and from all around the globe. "The Power of a Song" will be given as a free gift to staff and patients, every time an HPM artist performs.
